Last we heard, Valve’s rather excellent zombie FPS-fest Left 4 Dead wasn’t coming to PS3 “this year“. Unfortunately, the final nail’s been hammered into the rumour coffin: Chet Faliszek has confirmed to Wonderwall Web that PlayStation 3 owners will not be getting the game. Ever.
“Many people say that they heard rumors that Left 4 Dead is coming to PS3, however despite telling them this isn’t true they still don’t believe us, what more can we say than it is not,” Chet said.
Consider this one dead and buried.
Thanks, Destructoid.

We know it’s not coming to the PS3…that doesn’t meant it won’t come to the PS3. EA won’t turn their noses up at this once the sales pile up on the 360.

Right now, his word dont mean shit. it still could come to the PS3.

This isn’t exclusive territory though. This is Valve’s position, which is basically that: We don’t want to humiliate ourselves by proving that our stable of coders isn’t up to snuff by knocking out only a half-arsed PS3 port because they’re not smart enough to grok PS3 hardware. If we don’t release anything, people can’t accuse us of anything. Dig?
S’been that way for a while, now.
EA is going to point and laugh at them, and then release their own port (as EA does, they’re EA after all). Hopefully EA’s coders have learned something from the Orange Box, though.

Valve doesn’t really have any PS3 coders… so they’re not even going to attempt the port themselves anyway. They’ll just let EA fuck it up for them if it’s going to happen.

Yes it’s rather difficult to show their PS3 guys aren’t up to snuff when they don’t have any.
Valve are a PC focused company, they always have been and they always will be, consoles are a sideshow to them.

Quoted for most accurate post, for once

the orange box problems were over exaggerated IMO, I played it on both 360 and PS3 and appart from a couple of scenes where the game got a bit choppy there was nothing in it.
it certainly wasn’t quite as good as the 360 version but the differences were tiny in the long run.
I hope EA do find a way to get this onto PS3 next year.

So Esha was wrong?!!! Unpossible.

What was Team Fortress 2 like on the PS3? If that worked okay then I don’t see any reason why Left 4 Dead wouldn’t.
Then again, I seem to remember seeing reports suggesting that TF2 was ‘completely dead’ on PSN, which might act as a potential barrier to L4D making it across. Were those reports accurate?
Shatner said:
“Were those reports accurate?”
Unless they were sourced from EA’s server logs, Sony’s server logs or Valve’s server logs the answer can only be “no”.

What if they were?

TF2 ran ok and didn’t have the lag problems that 360 initially suffered, it was quite popular to start with but then died off.
That coupled with Valve dropping support for the ‘port’ meant patching TF2 was down to EA (from what I can remeber) and that probably put the nail in the cofin for TF2 (PS3).
I haven’t booted it up latley to see how popular it is these days.
But the bottom line is that it ran ok, I couldn’t see any difference between PS3 and 360.

Presumably they don’t have any PS3 tech.

Even the 360 port has got hints of afterthought here. Small differences in the 360 version like only your torch lighting up properly and no shot decals on the wall / zombies damage show it was very much primarily a PC designed title. Those things don’t really matter but you’d think they’d have done something to mimic the effects on the 360 rather than take a very PC approach of simply removing them to ensure the target speed was reached.

Were what?
Or are you just being contrary for the hell of it?
Tonka said:
Contrary to what? is the right answer to that one.

Contrary to the point I made in my post.
In the absence of morriss making a point other than “let’s suppose the opposite could be true” and leaving it at that, I’m going to just assume he’s being contrary.
He’s capable of providing adequately reasoned counterpoints when it suits him. He’s equally capable of drive-by trolling and disruptive comments for the hell of it when it suits him.
And, if the opposite is true - it would have to be some almighty coincidence to stumble onto matching figures that weren’t tied to any original sources. But seeing as, without official figures, the contrary view can’t be supported one way or the other, it’s entirely worthless - unless you believe it’s more important to be contrary than to accept a bit of logic or common sense.

It’s Valve for Christ sake. What does anybody expect? They hate Sony and they can’t code to save their lives. Look at the royal FUp of the Orange Box…

EA did that, mate.
