Its also worth pointing out that Mario Kart is still in the chart and WWE Smackdown Vs. Raw 2009 is in 5th place.

Really not surprised at all by this. It’s been one hell of a muddled launch for such a key title.

this is really sad . I guess that the difference between hardware installed base (Ps3-X360) is still significant in uk

Hardly surprising, really. I reckon it’ll in the charts for ages though.

The release mix up screwed it, not that it was ever gonna be Number 1…
I for exmaple still haven’t got it, but I certainly think it could have been >FIFA

Talking of the chav box… this was part of the extra info which came with the chart release:
“…the big multi-format Christmas contender from THQ ‘WWE Smackdown Vs Raw 2009’ debuts at No5 with sales over 6 formats – PS3 and 360 virtually neck and neck with 34% and 33% of sales respectively.”
Not bad PS3. Only 60% of the 360 userbase in the UK but your owners still hoover up enough of quality titles like WWE Smackdown to beat the 360 version.

What’s so chavvy about WWE? I think you’re mistaking chavvy (that can’t be a word) for popular.
Anyway, I was only joking.

The problem with LittleBigPlanet is that it’s an expensive console that’s out of the range of most casual gamers at the moment (this has been proved time and again with mendicants around here squealing for a price drop), and LittleBigPlanet is a casual game.
On the other hand, the XBox is a console designed to appeal to the teen/frat demographic. And the steroid-pumped guff that Gears of War offers is also aimed towards that demographic. Moreover: The teen/frat demographic is bloody huge.
I’m not surprised then that Gears of War 2 is outselling LittleBigPlanet. It’s a bit of a well duh point for me.
Fifa too, even. Sports games sell on consoles, we should all know that, too. Why else would they have yearly milkings with thousands ready to open their wallets for a game that’s just slightly different?
So… surprised? Not at all. This is exactly what I would’ve expected, at least.

No surprises here, LBP is too niche even on the game starved PS3. I wonder though, had it been a Nintendo property, what kind of numbers would it have pulled on the Wii? Oh well, we will never know.

Psychotext, I’d liek to hazard a guess that marketing has a LOTTT to do with it.
I have seen WWE PS3 excsluiove ads.
Lets see how Mirror’s Edge fairs (fares?) with it’s PS3 excsluive advertisisng in terms of attachment ratio. But I have certainly invested in wrestling games before, mainly for the funny charcter creation tool, and my and my friends would have a lot of fun with that.
I am not a chav, I just own a chavstation as opposed to a chav box.
“even on the game starved PS3″
It’s been inaccurate for a while, isn’t it getting as boring as the RROD thing now too?

Nah I wasn’t reading too much into it, I promise.
I was just saying, that the actual support behind that fact is probably to do with the advertising, when the attachrate is so different from the install base. Chaviness regardless!

Well I really think having seen more of a push behind R2 than LBP, that resistance was supposed to take the brunt since it’s a more mainstream aimed game.
And the game COULD have been great, if it had stuck to (not to sound like a blind purist, I am not) R:FoM feeling. That game had style, and all I need to do is watch a video of this one to see that not only are most of the weapons now, half as imaginative, but also a lot of Insomniacs style has been lost with them trying imitate CoD4.
Works for some people, but not me, and chnaging it from a British backdrop was an awful choice in terms of style. America just doesn’t have the architectural heritage, and the brown windy streets of Resistance Fall of Man were awesome.
Sorry to go into real depths, but I really loved R:FoM and Resistance 2 is a complete departure from what I have seen and played.

What the hell?
You like a personality-less FPS that tries to be CoD4 in place of it’s own awesomeness?
R:FoM was awesome, and it felt like no other FPS. Why did they bend to the crowd? The crowd would have bended to them if it was epic, and justified.
All it consists of (the game) is a mix match of other games concepts.

Haven’t played it. i just thought R:FoM was boring and incredibly average. I just didn’t get sucked in to the “universe”. So if R2 is a different experience, I might like it.
Also, I’ve never played CoD4. Multiplayer FPS against randoms doesn’t, hasn’t and never will interest me and as the campaign was about 4 hours long I never deemed it worth my cash.

never played cod4 myself, and resistance 2 looks like it will be awesome. i got the beta and the only thing i was disappointed with was the ‘lets copy halo by only holding 2 guns at a time thing.’ some might argue its more realistic, but i just don’t want every game to be similar

I think the universe and the weapons is what I liked the most.
And they borked it in R2, give it a rent morriss, i doubt you’ll enjoy it.Graphically – technically it’s VERY pretty, but moving to America and taking hints from Bioshock, Half Life 2 and [insert generic WWII gamer here] in terms of level aesthetic really destroyed any artistic consistency they had in the first one.
And there’s a real, we need to challenge Gears feel in the game, outside of the gore. And the weapons are nowhere near as fun or as zany as the first.
And my biggest gripes about it, the storytelling changing and there being mocap animations. Hale was awesome as a relative mute and the artistic influence of an animator is awesome.
MANNN! Makes me Esha/Shatner essay worthy, sorry for being so hypocrtiical world!

LBP was the second best selling game last week and was outsold only by Gears, unless you start adding up sales from different platforms. I don’t see how that is a bad result for LBP.

Well, quite. But how many sites are actually going to report that? Everyone quotes the multi-format chart and pays no attention to the others. It would have been nice for it to get the top spot, I think. Gears is big enough to take it on the chin.

Because Sony hoped it would’ve been number by a massive margin, perhaps? Considering that there are more PS3s in Europe than 360s and LBP has been hyped like anything and Sony see it as a flagship title and Sackboy the new face of the console?
Just throwing it out there.

Gears was always going to sell more on launch… a large percentage of 360 owners probably couldn’t contemplate existing without the game.
They need it to keep the demons in their mind at bay.
Personally I opted for LBP… co-op platforming is something quite new and fun IMO and provoked a feeling I haven’t had since Mario Galaxy.
