PSW gives CoD5 10/10, “Treyarch has toppled Infinity Ward”

Activision’s Call of Duty: World at War has been given 10/10 in the latest issue of PSW magazine that claims that “Treyarch has toppled Infinity Ward.”

“Modern Warfare was pretty much the best game on PS3 for the last year,” said PSW.

“So to hold the position that it’s sequel, World At War, is a better game, is surely to stir up some controversy. That’s right, Treyarch has toppled Infinity Ward.”

The PSW blog adds that “World At War takes everything great about Modern Warfare and adds to it; co-op, creative Perks, new tech (dynamic flames), more elaborate maps and the Left4Dead baiting secret game mode Nazi Zombie – all of this pushes Call Of Duty into a new direction.”

World at War “raises the bar for all war games,” apparently.

Impressive. More through the link.

Holy shit, didn’t see that coming. I wouldn’t put cash down based on PSW’s word, but still, a ten!

Oh hang on, is this the first ever ‘exclusive’ review? Hmmmmm.

PSW isn’t what I would call the most credible gaming magazine out there.

But at least we know it’s not entirely crap, at the least.

I don’t care about WWII shooters anymore. The genre is totally dead to me.

The beta is nowhere near as good as CoD4. The campaign must be proper amazing then to get a 10 on that alone! Oh wait, it’s a world exclusive review from PSW…. never mind.

The thing is, it could even end up being the greatest game known to man and it still won’t get the credit it deserves anyway.

For all intents and purposes, Treyarch are just rearranging the deckchairs on the Titanic. And i’m saying that as someone who’s looking forward to the game.

The multiplayer demo was awful.

I like PSW, and I trust their reviews. This is surprising.

Future Publishing + Exclusive Review = Not to be trusted

I played the demo once and haven’t touched it since.

My COD4 stats say that I’ve played the multiplayer game for 16 days, which is not far off 400 hours, yet I had no interest in going past 40 minutes with the COD5 beta.

They can give the game as high a score as they like (COD3 got a whole bunch of high scores when it was released too!). I don’t think it’ll make a difference in the long run.

I’m pretty sure that, unlike with COD4, we won’t be sitting here this time next year with COD 5 having been in the top 2 Xbox LIVE multiplayer games for the last 12 months.

I loved CoD4 but didn’t really enjoy the single player game. Maybe they did something special there? Though I doubt they changed the core CoD mechanic of infinitely respawning enemies until you push forward to point X which really annoys me.

Again from the beta I think they have broken multiplayer – the best aspect of CoD4 – so they deserve to lose a mark at least for that from me :D .
