Puzzled by the reaction here. It’s clear that the guy made the level. Doesn’t that explain the concept rather neatly?

The voice over establishes him as an ordinary bloke (not a computer geek or technical whizz) who’s made good looking game level full of references to his life and family. That’s the message.

How could they demonstrate the tools in a few seconds?

Exactly, the game needs to be explained efficiently and simply.

To me, it looks like this guy is just playing a level on a 2D game.

They needed to show the tools.

Pretty much. I got to the end of the ad and was just dumbstruck. Funny maybe, but that does not a good ad make.

Feels like it was knocked together by some college kids for their AV project.

Ad: I thought it was funny too, except the whole “the real Dog was hit by a Car”, that bit could quite easily have been left out. In fact, had they left that out then I probably would’ve considered it the perfect ad to pitch the kind of experience that LBP is offering.

pj: Good lord, who provides your Internet, man? I may be so bold as to suggest a change. With a wireless connection, I had both patches within the space of fifteen minutes.

ONE AND A HALF F*CKING HOURS TO PATCH IT!

Despite the patches being a 59mb and a 29mb patch rolled up into two downloads and one install, I can’t believe how long that took. This on a wired connection not wireless, and on a BB connection that’ll download over a gig in less time.

Sony really need to get some update servers that aren’t on 1200/75 baud acoustic couplers.

Loving the game though, now I can finally play the b*stard!
