LittleBigPlanet launches in Europe, new TV ad released

littlebigplanet2.jpg

LittleBigPlanet has finally launched in Europe, SCEE’s confirmed.

The company has released a new TV spot for the game, featuring some Australians, a dog and a “barbie”. See it after the break.

The road to release for the game has been an arduous one: not many products are granted the drama of a global recall.

Media Molecule’s blue sky platformer is already out in the US, but, again, the release period has been dogged by trauma, with servers being pulled down soon after launch to resolve “glitches”.

All’s fixed now, though. Hopefully Europe will suffer no such mishap. God speed, little cloth man.

What the fuck….

Didn’t they say it would be ridiculously hard to sum it up…

Well it’s not, but you don’t have an aussies discuss his life, and then have a tagline play with everything in an operatic voice.

SONY YOU HAVE A RIDICULOUS MARKETING TEAM.

Man… I Could do better.

ONE AND A HALF F*CKING HOURS TO PATCH IT!

Despite the patches being a 59mb and a 29mb patch rolled up into two downloads and one install, I can’t believe how long that took. This on a wired connection not wireless, and on a BB connection that’ll download over a gig in less time.

Sony really need to get some update servers that aren’t on 1200/75 baud acoustic couplers.

Loving the game though, now I can finally play the b*stard!

That’s a terrible, terrible ad.

I thought that was quite funny, actually. :-D

Ad: I thought it was funny too, except the whole “the real Dog was hit by a Car”, that bit could quite easily have been left out. In fact, had they left that out then I probably would’ve considered it the perfect ad to pitch the kind of experience that LBP is offering.

pj: Good lord, who provides your Internet, man? I may be so bold as to suggest a change. With a wireless connection, I had both patches within the space of fifteen minutes.

Esha – it’s not a service provider issue. I dunno who YOUR provider is but if you’re in the UK I’d switch to ‘em :)

I was excited for a minute.

I thought maybe Sony were stalking me in the beta and filming the ad based on me.

Sadly, it wasn’t.

Still funny though =D

I don’t have an xbox in my ass.

I don’t own one.

But you’ll note my negativity above.

The game itself is leagues above the quality of the advert,

Pretty much. I got to the end of the ad and was just dumbstruck. Funny maybe, but that does not a good ad make.

Feels like it was knocked together by some college kids for their AV project.

Exactly, the game needs to be explained efficiently and simply.

To me, it looks like this guy is just playing a level on a 2D game.

They needed to show the tools.

Puzzled by the reaction here. It’s clear that the guy made the level. Doesn’t that explain the concept rather neatly?

The voice over establishes him as an ordinary bloke (not a computer geek or technical whizz) who’s made good looking game level full of references to his life and family. That’s the message.

How could they demonstrate the tools in a few seconds?
