Reggie Fils-Aime skeptical of Disaster: Day of Crisis

In the latest episode of IGN’s Nintendo Voice Chat podcast, Nintendo guru Matt Casamassina spoke of a recent “hang-out” session with NOA president Reggie Fils-Aime in which, if Casamassina’s take on the tale is to be believed, the two had a chat about videogames. More specifically, Wii why-God-why sim Disaster: Day of Crisis.
Apparently, Reggie isn’t flashing his trademark kind-of-a-grin at this one. Said Casamassina:
“We hung out with Reggie, and basically, he doesn’t think Disaster is a $50 game. Especially in terms of audio, which he said is laughable. He said he’s going to watch it and see how it performs in Europe. If it does well, you’ll probably get it in America, and if it’s a bomb, you probably won’t.”
So yeah. Sounds like money well spent.
Thanks, Infendo.

I need to reiterate this, just for a moment.
A company has said that a game isn’t worth its price-tag. That’s particularly brave Reggie, I have to say. For all Molyneux’s faux crying over how his game is so buggy, flawed, and not-as-big-as-Oblivion, he never dared say that it wasn’t worth buying, or that the price was set too high for what it was.
I wonder how the next person to try this is going to top that? “My/this game is shit, we should give it away on magazine coverdiscs!”, maybe?
Footnote: Before anyone yells at me, I need to stress that I was one of the people who liked Fable II. I, however, am not Molyneux who apparently didn’t like Fable II. :p

Hold your horses Esha, Reggie didnt go on record saying this but said it to Matt Casamassina privately, Reggie probaly had no idea it would be repeated. Matt will most likely get a stern telling off when he gets back to Tendo-HQ

The best action game on the Wii IMO. So much variety and fun to be had, it just keeps the set pieces coming, and it’s so clever with it’s use of the Wiimote.
A real kick in the teeth for Monolith, that even Reggie isn’t supporting it, and maybe that attitude is a good indication of why Nintendo’s Christmas release list is beyond dire.
Honestly, if you’re looking for a great action game which uses the Wii to it’s fullest, then I heartily recommend it.

Please don’t call Twatt Casamassina guru again. His head is big enough as it is. Also worth of note is that Europe get a game before the US.
Add a link to the Eg review. It is the funniest review I’ve read in years.

Yeah, the EG review is amazing. But the IGN UK review is particularly good also – it gets 8/10 and basically says that despite all its flaws (and actually because of some of them) it’s actually a hell of a lot of fun.
Which it is. It’s got no pretentions towards being a piece of art, it’s just riotously entertaining throughout, and offers excellent replay value. And the audio? Presumably Reggie’s talking about the voice acting, which is hysterical. But Americans don’t really get the camp value out of that – they probably think Independence Day and Armageddon are meant to be taken seriously.

As much as I feel that Reggie can go suck a bag of donkey cocks, I appreciate that the man knows how to do his job and does it well. Saying that “Reggie probably had no idea it would be repeated” is giving him a bit too much credit.
When the President of NOA “hangs out” with a relatively high-profile (as far as Nintendo in the West are concerned) internet games journalist he should expect absolutely everything he says to get published or intimated in one way or another.
’nuff said.
I’m not even going to start on what I think of Matt Cassamassamassassaasssaina.

Twatt Assamashitas is even on Miyamotos radar.
Do tell us what Reggie has done to deserve the scorn of the mighty Shatner.

I just want to know why Monolith Soft are making cheap action games and not RPG’s. Xenosaga is one of the best series of RPG’s ever made.
