Activision “blocking” Brutal Legend’s future, say sources
This Variety report, citing Double Fine “sources,” is claiming that Activision is actively blocking publisher deals for Brutal Legend.
The game was left without a publisher when the Acitvision merged with Blizzard earlier this year.
From the piece:
Whatever the exact reasons, it seems that tensions are running high between Double Fine and Activision Blizzard as they try to make a deal with a new publisher.
I spoke to some sources on the Double Fine side and they said the problem isn’t that other publishers aren’t interested. They say it’s that Activision Blizzard has been “an impediment” and that they’re “blocking the process.”
More through there.

“If I can’t have you, nobody can have you!”

Or should that be “If I don’t want you then nobody else should either”?

God knows what’s going on there. The only thing I can think of is that they’re got a competitive product in the works.

They’re probably still figuring out if there’s a way they can sellotape a Guitar Hero license onto it.

If they kill off double fine with this move I shan’t be happy, in fact, I’d be fucking irate.

Rrrr.
I wouldn’t be so irritated by this, but it’s a Schafer game. That a Schafer game may never see the light of day is a crying shame and a crime against gamerkind. I could barely imagine a World without Psychonauts and how that raised the bar for the action-adventure genre.
Schafer > the silly sods at Activision-Blizzard, but they’ll probably only realise that when it’s too late. It’s their own bloody fault though, greedy buggers.
Edit: Plus, I’m amazed that I didn’t spin a pun about Schafer and schadenfreude, since the irony there is somewhat palpable.

Schafer and Jack Black, no less. It’s a comedy tag-team spectacular!
Or it would be. If they could actually release it.

If this is true I will NEVER buy another Activision or Blizzard game again (which will be a sacrifice as you all can agree). Shaffer is a talent that should be PUSHED by publishers, not buried.
Two of the best, most enjoyable games I’ve ever played have been by Schafer…Grim Fandango and Psychonauts. I was really, really looking forward to this title.
