Eurogamer Expo – Entire Mirror’s Edge demo in video

You can find a video of the Mirror’s Edge demo we played at Eurogamer Expo 2008 yesterday after the link.

Notice the “dying” element. Whoever’s playing this is better at it than we were. Read our impressions here.

Watching that makes me want to play it again, actually.

Looks very good to me. I wonder if the paths are very linear or if it’s a more or less open world.

  3. You not at it today, Pat?

  4. patlike said:

Nah, Johnny. Can’t. We’ve got a scan for the twins this afternoon.

  5. patlike said:

Syrok – It’s linear, but there are some alternative routes through small sections. Like, you might be able to jump up onto ledges or run up stairs to reach the same point, if you see what I mean. The route in that video is exactly the same as the one I took when I played it.

    Congrats on the twins Pat.

This looks alright, certainly different. I can see why it’d upset dyed in the wool FPS types. Still not liking the sound of the trial and error nature of it that came across heavily in Mike’s piece on the game. Let’s hope the demo arrives soonish..

It is good, definitely. I just didn’t expect it to be as hard as it is.

Hmmm I am rather liking “hard” games though at the moment. Midnight Club LA is blisteringly hard. So I’m going to have to try this.

Really love the visual style and it seems to run so utterly butterly. I’m slightly less pukey than I was the first time I saw it too, which is a good sign.

I see. There is demo coming for this next week or so, right?

    I like the swearing. :-D

Not being able to see your feet makes judging jumps look really hard here, I think. Is it like that in real life? I feel like the view is quite restricted at times, it would’ve been nice to have a slightly wider angle.

The odd bit of framerate wonkiness in there too, on occasion. Unless that’s just the video?

I saw a video where the player looked on his or her feet just before jumping so I assume it’s possible, but then it’s not like you really look at your feet in reality before you jump of something.

You do have other senses to rely on in real life, though. :-)

I was talking specifically about the bit where he tries to jump onto the horizontal pipe and misses. It looks like he lets go of the stick too early because he thinks he’s there, but he’s actually still a way off. If it was third person or the camera was a bit further back then you might not have that issue.

Its not really a problem with the game though, I think its just going to be too easy to get carried away with the pace and mis-judge jumps and jump to early to make where ever it is your trying to get too. In the video with the pipe jump its not even lined up correctly.

Also learn to slide under things. and do forward rolls to keep up your running pace after large jumps.

    LOL

    Only for n00bs!
