NoA boss Reggie Fils-Aime has told the LA Times that Wii production has been ramped up heavily since last year in an effort to meet apparently unending demand.
“Nintendo has continually raised the production levels of the Wii hardware,” he said. “We’re now producing 2.4 million units a month worldwide.
“Last year, we made 1.6 million a month. So we’ve made a 33 percent increase.”
Just to drive the point home, the exec mentioned the ship rate of one of Nintendo’s “competitors” by way of comparison.
“One of our competitors projects they will sell 10 million consoles worldwide this year,” he added. “For us, that’s three months of production.
“We’re producing an unprecedented level of hardware to try to meet demand.”
Christmas is go. The Wii factory must look like Willy Wonka’s chocolate plant on overdrive.

Wait, I thought Sony weren’t their competitor?

Wow. That’s a LOT of minigamez.

Ouch… that 3 months of production thing is just cold.
COLD I SAY.

Look at his quote about games being 50 hours long, there. I wanted to do another story, but he’s not being specific enough. I wish he’d said “Wii game”.

He’s probably right, though. The sorts of games they’ve been producing of late have been specifically designed to be played over and over. There might not be 50 hours worth of unique content, but I bet most Wii fanatics have had at least 50 hours worth of play out of stuff like Wii Sports.

I guess. Still, it would have been a great quote. Curse you, Fils-Aime.

Jayzus, the math is just all wrong. Although it would be true to say that their previous production figures are 33% less than what they have now, they’ve made a 50% increase on what they had, not 33%.
ALSO! Since when is 3 x 2.4 = 10? 2.4 million consoles a month means that they’d need just over four months of production to hit 10 million.
