Wii couldn’t draw RE5′s loading screen, says Capcom

residentevil517.jpg

Speaking to Xbox World 360, Resident Evil 5 producer Masachika Kawata has explained clearly why Resident Evil 5 won’t appear on Wii: it simply isn’t possible.

“Even the title screen of this couldn’t have been done on PS2 or Wii,” he said.

There’s loads more through there, including what the loss of Shinji Mikami’s meant to the team and why survival horror’s like Jaws.

Isn’t the Wii for true gamers who don’t care about graphics anyway?

The article doesn’t quote “graphics” anyway.

Come to think of it, the article doesn’t mention a “loading screen” either, even though the headline does.

I wonder what other bits have been misreported?

Categorically, there are clearly defined differences between “loading screen” and “title screen”. In fact there have been since home-computing began over 20 years ago.

Try to keep up.

Eh? Loading screen and title screen are totally different things. There’s no loading going on during the title screen.

It’s a pretty moronic thing to say on Kawata’s part.

I mean, 99.9% of us that would like to see the game on the Wii know that it would need a heavy downgrade from how it’s looking right now…but RE4 still looks perfectly acceptable to me, why couldn’t it be toned down to that sort of level?

Yeah, RE4 looks fine.

Who took it personally?

But ya know, kudos for having nothing to contribute other than spouting the f-word.

As far as I understand it, the Wii is physically incapable of outputting a signal at 720p resolution, so it’s categorically correct to say that the Wii can’t even draw the Playstation/Xbox 360 boot sequence screens.

This is not news.

It’s a pretty interesting comment. He’s the developer/producer, though, so he would know what he’s talking about. Moreso than, say, a random Wii fan on the internet thinking they know more.

Not one single person in this topic has said anything that isn’t true though. And no one has said that what he’s saying is wrong.

Jesus people, get your facts right before trying to look smart.

Wish I was here earlier to make a smarmy remark. Lord knows I want to!
