Square Enix boss Wada wants “Japan Alliance”
According to this Nikkei business report, Square Enix boss Yoichi Wada has said that in order to remain competitive with the Western market, a “Japan Alliance” must be assembled. This would see medium to small-sized companies realign and work together as a unit, apparently.
“[W]e should consider some sort of ‘Japan Alliance’,” said Wada. “Individuality is important. It’s not forcing everything into a single corporate brand. The ideal is a holding company under which several companies and brands can hang.”

I think what he’s getting at is that they should all be sharing technology and resources. There’s nothing like Unreal 3 over there (although they could just buy U3 like everyone else), they’re all doing their own thing their own way and basically reinventing the wheel for every project. Some tech sharing could help them to start catching up to the West again.

Alot of Japanese devs are using the Unreal engine, including SE.
