Japanese weekly hardware figures: PS3 sales hit an all time low
The latest Famitsu estimates are out and data predicts that the PS3 has sold a mere 4,800 units for week ending October 17. The 360 outsells PS3 yet again, this time by 1,200 units. However, Wii, DS, PS2 and PSP show them both how it should be done.
Full list below. Thanks, NeoGaf.
- PSP - 156000
- DS - 34000
- Wii - 25000
- PS2 - 7800
- 360 - 6000
- PS3 - 4800

Whoever is handling the PS3 over there needs a giant sized boot in the arse.

Why?
You can’t force people to buy something that they just don’t feel like they need.
If it was really as good as it’s supposed to be, then the PS3 should ‘sell itself’.

Should we assume that the majority of those PSP sales are the new 30000 model?
Those numbers seem very.. ..rounded. Don’t you think?

It’s not about forcing people though, it’s SCEJ’s job to ensure people want a PS3. They’ve clearly screwed up, and thus someone deserves a boot up the arse.

“You can’t force people to buy something that they just don’t feel like they need.”
Oh yes you can – see toothbrushes for your tongue and razors with more than 3 blades on em.
Seriously the PS3 situation in Japan is not going to improve until they get some games released which people actually want. It’s a crazy idea I know, but it might just work. At least someone at Sony actually acknowledges this now *and* is in the right position to do something about it.

That’s a good point actually, Shatner – these aren’t Media Create numbers at all. They’re the leaked Famitsu estimates.

arent these fatmisu numbers??? either way if the numbers do come out like this i would not be surprised…most people are waiting for the new bundles…this is one issue of announcing packages…this happens all the time, retailors are getting rid of old stock to get the new stock…lets see what the numbers will be for next week before we can truly judge…
also sony has no issue in japan, and there is no trend happening at the moment…if LR, ToV, IU were all on both consoles this disscusion of the 360 outselling the PS3 would not be happening, actually I think if the games were on the PS3 sales would have been better, but we will never know…and when LBP releases and when WKC release later this year in Japan, whatch what happens…

Famitsu are just as relevant a tracker as Media Create. There’s usually very little difference between the numbers they both offer up.
Also Saigon… Sony has no issue in Japan? Yeah, they’re doing juuuuuust fine.

But they’re not. Which is precisely the point.
