Sonic UK’s favourite videogame character
Sega has popped its head round the door to tell us that Sonic the Hedgehog is the UK’s all time favourite videogame character of all time.
“Over 500 UK gamers voted in the poll to mark the launch of London Games Festival, which is expected to attract over 100,000 computer games fans to the capital this week,” says the release.
Top Ten is as follows:
- Sonic the Hedgehog
- Super Mario
- Lara Croft
- Donkey Kong
- Pac Man (10 per cent)
- Link
- Max Payne
- Pikachu
- Niko Belic
- Blanka
Marcu Fenix or some other manly, muscular character should have won in our opinion. Anyway, congrats to Sonic and Sega.

Marcu Fenix? Is he from the eastern European localisation of Gears?
Also, it appears that we have a tie in first place, which Sega is conveniently failing to mention.

How come Mario is 1?
I expect the list contained just those 10.

Yes it does. You don’t use apostrophes with acronyms.

You don’t use apostrophes in ‘apostrophes’, either.

Also, why does only Pac-Man get his percentage displayed?

That’s for plurals. The case here is meant to be possessive.

I’ve changed it. I’m not happy about it. But I’ve done it.
There, now let that be a lesson to all of you.

You really need another word between “Sonic” and “UK’s”. Try ‘crowned’ or ‘voted’.

They only surveyed 500 gamers.
How is that enough?

Blanka is in there?
Blanka?
I’m greatly amused by this, that Blanka is remembered enough to make any kind of Top 10. I kind of liked the character, he was interesting to play in Street Fighter II. But he wasn’t the most supremely memorable character ever.
The fact that Blanka is in there shows that something is a little odd with this list.

No Solid Snake? He’s the best character ever!
