MS offering cheap HDs and free memory cards for NXE
Following news that New Xbox Experience would require 128Mb of memory to run, Microsoft has announced that it’s offering either a free 512Mb memory unit or a 20Gb hard drive for $19.99 to those that own an Xbox 360 with no memory space.
If you bought a 360 with no hard drive, you can go here and enter you serial number to see whether or not you can take advantage of the offer.
No idea if this is happening in Europe.
NXE launches on November 19.

considering the price of a PC HDD is extremly cheap I still don’t see why they charge you an arm and a leg for the 120gb HDD

Its not that difficult David profit is the obvious answer, no need to try and push the large HD on the masses when only a portion of the hardcore base will ever make full use of it, so they soak up the profit from charging a high price for it.

Still, you can’t stop some people complaining! lol.

Wow, I actually called this precisely. I’m stunned at how accurately I predicted this back in a previous thread.
And to be honest, $19.99 is fairly damned steep when you look at PC 20GiB hard drives. They probably could’ve been a little more kind than that, but they have the memory cards there as a backup argument. So, y’know… Microsoft and affiliates can say “We’re offering a free memory card, what more do you want?!”. ;p
If it was a 40GiB drive, I’d understand that price-point.

I’m hearing that the UK price of this is £13… which amazingly is in line with the exchange rate.

Psychotext: You can LoL all you like, but that price for that capacity of hard drive definitely triggers my rip-off radar, especially since they’re claiming that’s a discount. I admit that I’m foreign to the Microsoft ways of handling hardware, but a hard drive is a bloody hard drive, and it doesn’t change much no matter what it’s plugged into. By PC market standards, $19.99 (£13) is fairly atrocious for a 20GiB hard drive.
As I said, that may be how Microsoft does things, but it’s still a bad price for an amazingly low capacity hard drive. And that was entirely my point.

You’re missing the point Mr Overdefensive. As Pleasant_Cabbage said, the original one retails for £35-40.
£13 is clearly much cheaper than that. Besides that, the cheapest I can see a 2.5″ notebook drive for is £25, at any capacity… mostly because at the low end there’s a set point where drives can’t get any cheaper, no matter what size they are.
