Just a quick heads up for those of you who need a game’s strengths and weaknesses quantified by numeracy: Eurogamer.net and an as-of-yet-unnamed-US-site will be publishing their respective LittleBigPlanet reviews tomorrow night at midnight UK time.
These will be the first online reviews of the game. Bet you can’t guess the scores.

I had trouble putting the controller down last night and go to bed as a result of playing this game.
And when I finally did go to bed, it was hard to stop thinking about what things I should have tried to make.

If it’s EG it’ll be 5/10 and they’ll make a killing out of the hits on the comments thread

Ill go for 8/10 from EG with the things morriss does’nt like being used as an excuse to mark it down.
morriss said:
I’m not writing it! (sadly)
Psychotext said:
Five reviews. Three 10s, two 9s.
Johnny Cullen said:
Un-named site – IGN: 9.8/9.9
Eurogamer – 8/10
Oh they will.
Otherwise, a 10/10
morriss said:
Yeah it’ll have to IGN, really. They get ‘everything’, always.
absolutezero said:
Sorry morriss I meant that the things you did’nt like will most likely be the things that will put Tom off, not that you’ll be writing it :p
morriss said:
Tom’s not doing it, it’s Oli Welsh, so it’ll be interesting to see what his take on it is.
absolutezero said:
Oh! Very interesting.
Johnny Cullen said:
Oli Welsh?
8/10 confirmed.
Johnny Cullen said:
I shoud really point out why (Post above wont let me edit)
Oli Welsh is only a specialist on MMO games and I dont think I’ve seen him give a game which isn’t a MMO more then a 9/10.
Do remember, he was the one who review Metal Gear Solid 4 and the infamous 8/10.
http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=143797
“We love you, Snake. Don’t come back.”
And yet, Welsh knows nout, why? Because MGS4 is one of the best games of all time, probably the masterpiece of gaming this decade.
XDamage said:
Ooo, that explains it rather well yeah. It’ll be fun to see what it gets.
morriss said:
Let’s play nice kids, eh? It’s just an opinion and it’s just a videogame.
Gekidami said:
Well technically a professional review is abit more then just an ‘opinion’, its viewed by millions and sometimes has the power to make people buy, or not, a product…
Syrok said:
It’s still an opinion. One with potentially a lot of influence but still nothing more than the opinion of one.
morriss said:
As long is the opinion is adequately backed up, then it’s ok in my book.
Shatner said:
Hmmm.
I very much doubt that, morriss.
morriss said:
So I’m lying?

I love Metal Gear Solid 4 as much as the next fan, I really do. But I honestly never understood how it was more than an 8/10 game anyway, so I thought EuroGamer had that right.
MGS 4 was a masterpiece, but it was hardly different to anything that had come before, in gameplay or in plot. It was refinement more than innovation, and refinement based upon a lineage of how many games?
LittleBigPlanet on the other hand is pure innovation, but it might take a patch or two to refine that innovation into something legendary (I think Mm can do it more quickly than Hideo did, they’re almost there even). The Mm guy has detailed the controls, and there are things people are being such grumpy socks about.
I’m hoping LBP gets a 9, I think it deserves it. But I would understand if it got an 8. The thing is, for something to get a 9 or a 10, I honestly think it has to be a really legendary game, an instant classic and something that’s damned special compared to what’s come before.
If all games start getting the 9 and 10 mark, they become so much less special, and then we get the “5 equals shit, 10 is about as good as any good game this year” mindset borne of that.
So I could live with an 8 on LBP, hoping for a 9 because it really does deserve it, but expecting an 8.

Good points, well made.
morriss said:
Swedish site gives 9/10
“+ PLUS
Charming, beautiful and a durability that is the console life out.
“- MINUS – MINUS
BELL-RINGING not fully control all times, the dimensions confuse sometimes.”
Esha said:
You might want to change that “that is the console life out” to “that draws the console life out”. I think that’s what the reviewer meant, it’s the way it seems to read.
I definitely agree with that list of boons and caveats though, and I knew that control of how characters jump between the three layers would come back to bite Mm on the bum. It can be mastered–I mastered it and I’m no supreme gamer, roomie mastered it too and he is–but when I think about it honestly, I think it’s more difficult to master than it should be, and not for the right reasons. That’s a point that needs to be raised.
LBP is still my game of the year though, despite all that.
Blerk said:
It’ll be a 10s all round. No, really. It will.
Sony’s probably booked a load of advertising with everyone for a start.
morriss said:
Probably? Have you seen the ‘INTER’LittleBigPla’NET’ recently?
Esha said:
Blerk: I’ve never actually seen Sony do that, otherwise I would’ve thought they’d have done it with MGS 4? ;p
DrDamn said:
I was a little worried given some past form from Oli – he did write a very positive preview for LBP on EG previously though.
Johnny Cullen said:
He’ll still give it a 8/10.
We’ll find out anyways in half an hour.

Johnny Cullen said:
What do you expect though?
The fanboy wars is practiclly WWIII.
Psychotext said:
Sadly the idiocy has spread to the EG forums as well. It’s not so much fun there.
Shatner said:
So I’m lying?
Well, it’d be nice to see you practice what you preach.
Tonka said:
I love how gaming news has sunk so low as to report on review scores. No wonder a 9/10 is seen as a disappointment by some.
We now have a three point scale.
