TGS: 360 will keep rising in Japan, says Sensui

Xbox Japan boss Takashi Sensui has told Kotaku that he believes Microsoft’s line-up in Japan means 360′s fortunes in the country are likely to stay on the up and up.

“I see no reason this sales trend won’t continue,” he said. “We have the third party line-up.”

Xbox 360 has now outsold PS3 for four weeks in a row in Japan, and ‘enjoyed’ hardware sell-outs when Tales of Vesperia was released, a situation Xbox production boss Aaron Greenberg said was the real deal.

“Oh, it was totally legit,” he said. “The demand for the console shot up suddenly. How can you plan for that?”

He added: “Everything we’re making, we’re selling straight through. That’s why we’re selling out. The only machines we’re not selling have dents in them or have been accidentally damaged.”

More through the link.

You have to hand it to them they never give up.

This time 3 months ago it looked like Japan was a graveyard for MS.

Some turnaround in anyone’s book.

It will be interesting to see will it carry over through Xmas.

I wouldn’t be so bullish just yet if I was them. They need to start filling out that release schedule a bit for the future. Once Star Ocean’s over and done with, what’s left?

Yeah you could say there a bit cocky alright still they must be pleased all the same.

2008 has not been there best year so far.

If it turns around now the timing could not be better for them.

Will fable 2 not be a mover?

I wonder what their worst case scenario was for the gen? I personally thought that they’d have trouble hitting 1m in Japan. Maybe they still will.

Worst case scenario: Sony fucks up leaving the market wide open, but then Nintendo comes swooping in and cleans up with a console made out of a cornflake packet and old bits of string.

D’oh!

I actually think this gen is turning out to be the best for the consumer.

Neither MS or Sony have it wrapped up yet or for that matter Nintendo.

All this does is keep each and every one of them on the ball.

Just looking at the games line-up from both Sony and MS means we are spoilt for choice thank goodness.

Yeah, but people never look at it that way… all they see is their fave wittle company struggling, and they cwy and cwy.

Though to be honest I expected it to have more of an effect on Sony’s pricing. They’ve obviously been told to man up and suck it up by the Sony board.

Life is so much simpler when you don’t give a shit who wins.

I agree with Blerk: I always have to buy every console each gen (I can’t help myself) and more competition = more good games. Not giving a shit who wins is the way to go.

/watches fat people eat themselves to death at McDonald’s
/watches fiveyear olds with no teeth thanks to Coke

That is what competition gives the consumer.

I hate competition. I should just win all the time, every time.

I’m glad that the 360 is doing well in Japan (althought it’s only been a month or so). And why shouldn’t it? Besides the RROD (that they are working hard to correct) it’s a very nice machine. Brand loyalty is insane if you ask me. Why limit yourself to one company if there is a better or equal option just around the corner?

I still want a PS3 (for the blu-ray), but for now the 360 is more than enough to keep me busy. I play my 360 probably 2-3 hours a week (I do have a life you know ^_^).

It is great seeing that some of the Japanese gamers are starting to consider the 360 as an option. This means that more games will come my way (since I have a 360). Not only that it improves the video game market and ensues healthy competition between Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft (like what everyone is saying). Here’s to four more weeks of good sales for the 360!
