Sony clears up TGS press conference confusion: there isn’t one
Speaking to Eurogamer, Sony’s confirmed that the company isn’t going to hold a press conference at TGS, despite the firm’s Japanese site appearing to claim the contrary. From the piece:
The platform holder’s Japanese video website specifically lists “SCEJ Press Conference 10/9″.
But while the company is expected to show a number of new titles, two separate sources at Sony Europe have denied it, including one currently in Japan for TGS, who said his colleagues looked baffled when he raised the subject.
CESA, the company that runs the show, also makes no mention of such an event on its website.

Yes, but nobody is going to go because you can already get all the same beer on the Microsoft stand.

What is going on here? It’s only the most important show for their home territory. Nothing major, like. You’d have thought they’d have figured out which one was their arse and which one was their elbow by now – it’s not like they didn’t have enough time to prepare.

I just asked the same question to someone on MSN and got:
“because they would look like idiots in their home territory showing resistance 2 and LBP, while MS are showing more RPGs than god?”

Wait wait wait. So the only platform holder attending TGS is Microsoft?

It’s like we’ve entered bizarro-world. It’s the Tokyo Game Show, but Sony have barely bothered showing up and Microsoft are sitting on SquareEnix’s lap. And tickling their ears.

@Blerk
More like SquareEnix is doing some nasty shit in Microsofts lap.

Don’t worry.
If Sony doesn’t, I shall present to you Team ICO’s new game.

I hear that Team Ico aren’t even there.
Unless there’s been some almighty misunderstanding, I can only conclude that those ‘announcements’ were just fluff. What was the source for the original story?
Regardless, even the most steadfast of Sony fan should be disappointed. I thought we were finally going to see what SCEI’s teams had been up to.

Im steadfast and we got as many game annoucnements as Microsoft, but I think anyone would be disappointed with MS’s conferecen too, and they actually held one!

They’ve been lucky that some third-parties turned up with some nice-looking stuff, I think.
And yeah, the Microsoft show was pretty rubbish too.
In fact, the show as a whole has been a bit of a bust so far. Hardly any new game announcements. Seems over for Japan.

With games like Yakuza 3, White Knight Chronicles and Quantum Theory to show off, and a supposed dozen plus exclusive titles to reveal, I can’t believe they wouldn’t have been able to put together a decent presentation.
Hopefully the whole RPG situation will prove to be a good wake up call for them.

Robo_1: That dozen plus new games thing was a mistranslation. People believed what they wanted to believe.

Yeah… Christ, that puts dampeners on the whole thing then, I was expecting this flood of PS3 goodness.
I’m off to drown myself in Wipeout HD then…

I’m imagining some sort of pre-TGS meeting last week where they all sat around to decide what to show and suddenly realised that their entire output for the foreseeable future is aimed squarely at a Western audience.

Seems it was all a lie or a misunderstanding. Current favourite rumour seems to be that it’s actually all the Western titles that we already knew about (Killzone, LBP, Resistance, Motorstorm, etc.) being given official Japanese releases rather than entirely new stuff. Although that might all be fibs – I’ve no idea whether all that stuff was confirmed for Japan before or not.
There is still the White Knight conference to come, but Level-5 are doing that, not Sony.

I think the Konami announcement is probably Castlevania, by the way. They ‘sort of’ announced that for the PS3 and 360, although there’s no detail other than a picture of a guy with a flaming sword and a vague translation of the title.
