Japanese hardware sales: Weekly PS3 figures hit all-time low

Thursday, 9th October 2008 18:51 GMT By Patrick Garratt

Oh dear. Xbox 360 has yet again outsold PS3 in Japan, with the Sony machine hitting its lowest weekly figure yet, according to teh internets.

This is 360′s fourth week ahead of PS3. Before the 360 massive gets too excited, it’s worth pointing out that PS2 outsold them both.

Last week’s charts here. Data for the week ending October 5.

  • DS – 42,385
  • PSP – 26,045
  • Wii – 25,330
  • PS2 – 8,618
  • Xbox 360 – 8,271
  • PS3 – 7,232

That’s a whole month ahead for the 360. Poor old PS3. It’s all Sony’s fault. You can’t choose your parents.

And I do believe that MS screwed up on this one, and they are indeed supply constrained over there. It won’t last long, but as long as people want some Star Ocean, Infinite whatever and Last Remnant love, it’ll stay ahead of the PS3.

I agree, major fuck-up from Microsoft there. FINALLY their console starts selling a bit in Japan, and they manage to be supply constrained!

As for Sony.. well, what’s to say? They should be really grateful that they still have their psp to fall back on. Who would have predicted that a couple of years ago?

Sony really need to get there act together after all this is home territory.

I know they have included lots of features with the ps3 but it still seems to be to expensive for the ordinary Joe.

This blue ray win seems to be hurting Sony more than helping them imo.

They will have to bring the price down somehow or other.

Well who would of predicted an Xbox outselling a PlayStation a few years back? :D
Things change, sometimes unfortunately. My personal opinion is that Sony need a shake up and sort themselves out, and really pelt Microsoft in the next generation. They did superbly with the PS2, and now in most areas they’re just pissing it all up the wall. Its really a shame. Id love to see Sony get back on top next time, but they really need to re-think their strategy, and get ahead of the game next time.
