White Knight Chronicles to feature online co-op

whiteknightstory5.jpg

According to this IGN piece, Level-5′s White Knight Chronicles is to feature online co-op. From the story:

White Knight will feature a cooperative online quest mode. Separate from the single player story mode, the online mode, known in the Japanese version as “Live Part,” will allow four players to team up to work through quests.

While the game’s story mode does not offer co-op play, there is a connection between the story mode and online modes. The character that you use in the online mode will travel in your party during the story mode. Additionally, quests from the online mode can be played single player as well.

White Knight will feature all the expected components of an online title, including a lobby, featuring up to 16 players, an auto matching system, and chat facilities of some form. A robust character creation system was detailed months ago.

The game’s out in Japan on Christmas Day, and will be playable at TGS this week.

At the risk of sounding negative about this, doesn’t it look a little… generic? :-S

What is this about anyway? I haven’t seen anything since the pretty good trailer over a year ago.

It didn’t show very well last year at TGS and it did look a bit on the bland side. But it’s been a year since then and they’ve had ample time to polish it up. Level 5 usually knock out great stuff, so I’m fairly confident it won’t disappoint.

Unless it does.

4 player online sounds less generic.

Soudns like what Hino said was true.

Well you can make it less generic, by makign your onlien charcter look insane in charcter creation mode, but Level 5 always create games with that bright generic setting.

And I can’t wait for ICo 3 :D

Oh… Wait.

CAn’t wait for you to lose that tenner Pat.

I hope they’ve resisted the temptation to make it all MMOish.

Thats what worried me.

I want it to be Fable-esque.

But to fair it proabably won’t be, the guy said liek Monster Hunter, so I expect that.

Pat, why is it listed as rumour if you’re so sure by the way?

Ooh.

If somehow build a mission-creation system into this, it could end up being the Japanese iteration of Neverwinter Nights, and that would make me very happy. It has to be said that I’m not a huge fan of MMOs because of the kind of person one tends to find there, but I had very positive experiences with NWN thanks to Neverwinter Connections.

Then again, I’m probably hoping for too much.

And I have to admit, I agree with pat. It does look horribly generic, but then I’ve heard it billed as the Japanese iteration of Oblivion (opposedly) which was also a terribly, terribly generic game (not that the samey bloomified graphics bothered all the fans back then).

It could be good though, and it could surprise me. I’m hoping so, because I like RPGs, and I like co-op games, and I have a firey passion for co-op RPGs. So… quiet hopes.

Pud – I’m as sure as I can be considering it’s not officially announced. I have to say “rumour,” innit ;)

Esha it’s not an MMO, it’s simialr to Monster Hunter, which will please the Japanese audience no end.
