Lombardi: Left 4 Dead pre-orders 40% higher than Orange Box

Speaking to VGChartz, Valve’s Doug Lombardi has said that Left 4 Dead pre-orders are trouncing those taken by The Orange Box.

“Pre-orders for Left 4 Dead are currently exceeding Orange Box pre-orders by well over 40 percent, this driven largely by the 10 percent off promotion being offered now for both versions,” he said.

“And one could assume this trend over Orange will continue as the pre-launch demo hits and the largest consumer advertising campaign for any Valve game begins on buses, buildings, billboards, TV, magazines, and web sites in the next couple weeks.”

More through there. The multiplay shooter’s out for 360 and PC in November.

I can’t wait for this. Really. This is going to be so awesome.

I’ll say this from a console gamer who’s a huge Half Life fanboy’s point of view…

This news piece doesn’t surprise me really. As great as Orange Box was/is, Half Life is a PC franchise and most of the people who’d wanted to play Half Life 2 and episode 1 had already done so, so perhaps people just held out and waited for whichever of the other three games they wanted.

Left 4 Dead though is different. Orange Box acted as a great introduction to Valve and the Steam engine for console owners, now they know it does a great job, they’re bound to be psyched for L4D.

Plus i dare say, a damn sight more people would love rather shoot the fuck out of zombies than take over a spectacled scientist…

Saw it at Games Convention, and it looked fucking astonishing, frankly. Failure is impossible.

Just made me a deeply happy man Pat – I’ve been banging on about it for a long time now. Imo one of the few games which lives up to J Allard’s quote about “Anti-coop” all those years ago.
