Wii explodes in UK, PS3 and 360 sell 1 million units in past year

Chart-Track’s confirmed that both PS3 and Xbox 360 have achieved 1 million console sales in the UK in the past year.

According to this GI report, as of September 2008, PS3 has reached 1.4 million units, 360 2.3 million and Wii 3.6 million units.

The numbers show considerable growth from 2007 – both PS3 and Xbox 360 have moved 1 million units since the same period last year, when their installed base was 0.4 million and 1.3 million, respectively.

Wii is the real success story, however – the Nintendo machine has sold 2.5 million units in the past 12 months in Britain, up from 1.1 million units in September 2007.

More through there.

Just shows ps3 isn’t outselling 360 in UK.

I wonder which one is selling most in rest of Europe.

That would be the Wii.

Oh, you meant the consoles competing to avoid third place. :P

PS3 will be ouselling 360 in Spain, that’s for sure.

Spain is like Japan 2 in terms of Playstation.

And by that I mean Wii can still very easily overtake it!

Those DS numbers are insane btw… 3.3m in one year.

No_PUD: Japan 2 might not be a good example for a healthy selling PS3 right now. ;)

PS3 will have done better on the continent over the last year for sure. Whether the 360 price cut has made a dent in it remains to be seen.

Microsoft did say they had sold 6m in Europe last week so assuming the dates stack up evenly enough that leaves 3.7m. I’d imagine SCEE aren’t far off if not past the 4.7m required to catch up.

Much of a muchness vs the Wii though obviously.

Psychotext, I think the word anomaly is far more applicable to that specific example.

Especially when WKC is coming out this Christmas.

I don’t even know why the Wii is mentioned in the same breath as the other two, tbh.

There is no 3rd place, imo. Only 1st and second. Not that whoever comes first or second matters, of course.

No_PUDding: You think WKS will make that much of a difference when an established title like MGS (and others) didn’t?

What in the name of god is WKS?

I have to agree with morriss here. PS3 and 360 are competitors in the same market, the Wii certainly overlaps in that market too but by and large it’s opened new markets that have very little to do with gaming.
Saying the PS360 are losing ground against the Wii is pretty much like saying they’re being outsold by Apple’s iPod.

I think WKS will amke a difference less than MGS4, but that was a pretty big spike.

And you question me on that and yet you think 2 or 3 exclusive small time JRPG’s will chnage the 360′s fortune in Japan?

And MGS is an action game.

Basically Japan is drowning in Wii, and Third party support is following.

lol, who was talking about the 360 in Japan? It’s dead as a doornail. The point is, that the PS3s sales in Japan are horrific… and they got no better after the MGS spike (in fact, the weekly average actually dropped). So pinning hopes of a resurgence on an unknown game probably isn’t the best idea.

It’ll cause a spike though, probably a considerable one but I don’t think it’ll change anything long term. Only FFXIII or GT5 has the power to do that.

All I know is that a Level 5 game will be as popualr as the JRPG’s already released on the 360. If not more so, becuase of the larger userbase.

And more to the point, I won’t try to argue that the PS3 has good sales, but it’s bloody expensive, and has had nothign Japan-centric end of summer/start of fall.
