85,000 PlayTV units ship in the UK

playtv.jpg

According to this GI story, Sony’s confirmed it’s shipped 85,000 units of PlayTV in the UK.

The hardware add-on, which acts as a freeview box and personal video recorder, went on sale last weekend for £70.

Everyone we know who has one can’t stop banging on about it. Which is clearly why 85,000 of them are now hitting shops countrywide.

Does this have any advantage over Sky+ now Sony removed the option to do whatever you wanted with whatever you’ve taped?

It’s cheap if you already have the PS3.

I kind of want this, but Edge were quite critical of it in the recent issue. Although they did say that all the issues they had with it could be fixed via firmware updates.

Thay haven’t done that – I’ve just converted a program from PlayTv to Mpeg2 and transferred it to my PC tonight. No idea why that piece of “info” exploded on the interweb – it was complete f**king nonsense. Imo it’s a great piece of kit.
