Xbox 360 sales up 32% following UK price cut
GI’s reporting that sales of Xbox 360 hardware rose 32 percent over the weekend of Microsoft’s latest price cut.
“[360] sales are up 32 percent and PlayStation 3 sales are down eight percent,” said Chart-Track’s Chris Poole.
Microsoft’s latest adjustment now puts the Arcade at £129.99, the Premium at £169.99 and the Xbox Elite, complete with 120GB hard-drive, at £229.99.

I wish they’d just give us some bloody figures instead of these silly percentages which basically tell us nothing other than “we sold more” or “we sold less”. They don’t actually mention, for instance, which machine sold the most units.

Wii all know which one sold the most units

I think the GfK / Enterbrain / Chart-Track partnership were looking at giving out some information in the future on a regular basis. Wouldn’t expect SKU’s though.
I read from one retailer that Arcades had jumped a lot, Pro’s a bit and Elite’s hardly at all. Then again, $199 is a little more emotive in the US than £129 here

Yeah, give us real figures instead of these useless percentages.

is it even sustainable?
people must realise microsoft have to make their money somewhere, it might not be this generation, but clearly they’re trying to oust sony from the market and have the pie split between just two.

Heh. As if either of the other two wouldn’t do the very same thing if they could. They’re all cunts, man.

Blerk’s right. They’d all do it if they could. Sony did it. Now MS are doing it.
I think it’s called aggressive business tactics.

I doubt MS are losing much money on hardware right now. It’s been out almost 3 years and they didn’t drop the price for over 1 and a half. Their E&D division will have made a profit this year I think.
If their strategy was to “oust” Sony they missed several opportunities to really turn the screw. It’s more a case of “blunting” Sony in the living room if you look at it.
Though they forgot about Nintendo!

Well, the Xbox division started posting profitable quarters so yeah, they are making money on it.

@ Tiger Walts
Not with the new price-points, me thinks. They’re back in the red numbers.
But they don’t care because all M$ wants NOW is more market share.

Well 32% isn’t even a great increase regardless of sustained.
That’s like instead of 50,000 sales per month, 65,000.
Where does my math go wrong?

Maths is fine. Price cut will make far more difference at a time of year where people are buying lots of this sort of thing though (xmas).

I see. That seems more clever now.
You should probabaly sort out your morriss problem, by the way.
