LBP Euro beta starts tomorrow, EG giving away keys right now (update)
Hit this quick. Eurogamer’s giving away 5,800 LittleBigPlanet beta keys right now. The European beta starts tomorrow and runs until October 12.
Go!
Update: The file’s 906Mb and you can play as soon as you download it, apparently.
Update 2: Eurogamer’s getting absolutely twatted. Good luck with that.
Update 3: Keep trying. It’s 8.27pm now and we’ve just been told there are about 1,000 keys left.
Update 4: EG tech man says all keys are now gone. Just filmed the first 15 minutes of play. Will sort now.
Update 5: Posted the video. You can watch the full intro, the tutorial and the first level here. There’s 14 minutes of footage in total.

I have been trying constantly to get back in and nada.
It’s dead as a doornail. If you are not already registered forget it you will never get past the registration.

I only got as far as the first level, there’s a lot of introductions. Seems very promising.

I don’t have the time to use my key today, but once it’s downloaded, can it be played offline?

Testament to just how poor EG’s servers are that these keys could still be there after this amount of time.

Yup. I got here at 5:38 and couldn’t get on EG, so assumed I’d missed out on it. I’m sure all the keys would have been gone had everything held together perfectly.
Although it’s quite funny to see people on GameFAQs complaining that they can’t register for EG because it’s so slow.
EG is surely going to have to do something about these beta giveaways though. EG will probably be out all night now.

You’d think EG generated no income seeing as they seem to be running on a K6 with 128MB of RAM…

Made a friend to come over to my place to test the offline multiplayer. Was really great fun, much better than playing it on your own or online.
Seems pretty good so far, don’t know how long it will last and how much more there is in the full game. I think I will pick it up on launch.

One thing that’s really annoying is if you have Blu Ray remote, the game keeps on asking you to sign it in.
So I have to sackboys but I only want one.

So what do you reckon so far ecu? Will this the system-seller mega-game that it’s billed to be? Has your excitement been justified?

Well, you asked for this.
/essay mode
I’ve only played the tutorial and the first level. Seems very good, the platforming is nice and responsive, I got straight in to it and found it all very intuitive. I’ll try and play a bit more tonight, and I wouldn’t mind giving the multiplayer a go, but I don’t have a headset or keyboard so I reckon it’d be a bit shit.
A particular highlight for me is the various levels of mood that you can set for your sackboy, and nice touches such as holding X when you restart, the sackboy sort of strains and then zips off. It’s very polished, I like it. Nice subtle use of the motion controls too.
It’s still way too early to say if it’s lived up to the hype. It’s not like a big action game, where you can tell from the explosive, action packed first level whether the game is up to scratch or not. This is evidently going to be a grower, and you’ll get more out of it, the more you put in. I can’t see it being the type of game I’ll play for hours on end every night until it’s done, but it’ll be more of the ‘stick in and play for an hour’ every now and again. There WILL be some truly brilliant levels in this game, I’m looking forward to getting stuck in.
Sales? I don’t normally like to be drawn on sales, I’m not Psychotext.
Sales of new IP’s are extremely hard to predict, but given the money Sony are ploughing in to promoting this, it could be huge. It won’t get your average Wii owner interested in PS3, the machine is still to expensive for this, but it might push a few regular gamers over the edge. Alright I’m done. Sorry.

I find it strange you find it so responsive. People I’ve spoken to have complained of the lack of responsiveness and how clunky and jerky it feels. Also, the whole moving to the foreground and background is again, unresponsive and doesn’t seem to work. And I agree with them. In fact, that’s my main complaint.
Sackboy’s cute. The pre-made levels are nice, but I’m gonna need a lot more.
