LittleBigPlanet’s online “Create” mode to be added in post-launch patch
LittleBigPlanet’s Create mode, which sees up to four players hopping, bopping, and generally glee-ing a level into existence, will only be available as an offline mode when the game launches. In a forum thread on the official PlayStation website, developer “Sam_Protagonist” confirmed the disheartening news.
“The ability to create with your friends online will come as part of the first major update after the game is released,” Sam wrote. “Offline creating with up to 4 people on one PlayStation 3 however is available right from the get go.”
“The next question will undoubtedly be ‘when is the first update due’ and right now there is no specific time set at the moment, however with the game having gone gold, the team at Media Molecule are already hard at work on content for the game after its release, with online multiplayer creating top of the list.”
We’re in tears, but we still can’t wait for the game. How about you?

Better than waiting even longer.

Well, for me it doesn’t matter to much really as long as they won’t charge for it. I never really played a game with for “friends” online anyway and I doubt I will this time around.
Edit: Besides I think the creating will mostly be done by a single person offline and not in a team, online.

I agree with Syrok’s edit.

I was looking forward to “riffing” on levels with my mates from the get go… pretty disappointed tbh – but I’ll still snap it up on launch.

The only people I was going to play this with creating are online.

I’m more interested in the actual campaign itself, tbh. So hopefully it’ll be patched when I’ve finished that.

Isn’t the whole point of this game exactly what’s not going to be available on day one of this launch.
They say that they will patch it up but I bet you have to fork out money for it.

The campaign will do me well. Someone with a reviewers copy on NeoGAF said:
So hard not to keep talking about this game. Playing the last chapter now and this game is the most inventive, both visually and mechanic wise, platformer/game since Super Mario World. there’s just some staggerringly good and surprising moments in here. There’s a bit at this one level where it’s like playing Sonic where you hurtle down slopes with your Sackboy collecting points and just before that it was electrified platform city a’la Super Mario.
So the campaign sounds awesome anyway. And I never planned to create levels online with tohers, I wanted to create my own.
I prefer it come out now, and they patch it in.

No, not really. It’s a feature of the game, but it’s far from “the whole point of the game”. And I doubt most people will even use it anyway. And they certainly won’t charge you when they release the pack, that’s just nonsense.

Did they ‘showcase’ those 4 players as interacting online, each on a separate console, creating together?
As the article clearly states “Offline creating with up to 4 people on one PlayStation 3 however is available right from the get go.”
Your tone is suggests that this ability is entirely absent from the game on release. This isn’t the case. Or, to put it another way: No.

I don’t know anyone that isn’t excited about jumping online with the game and messing around. Regardless of the offline mode the online mode to this game is just as important.
How hard would it be to delay the game till its complete rather than patch. I’m not a developer but to release a game with a online feature like that missing is just daft.
Personally I was excited about jumping online and messing around with a few friends. The whole point of this game is about user created content and the creating on the fly feature. It’s all well and good you can do it offline but I don’t exactly have 3 other friends coming over to my house everyday to make use of that feature more than once or twice.
Anyway my comment might of been a bit strong just a bit pissed that the feature I wanted isn’t going to be available right from the start.

I’ll get this game on the first day and enjoy creating stuff for myself. However, I am pretty disappointed that I won’t be able to create cool levels for people until ‘whenever’.
What is it with Sony and this generation of games? Is EVERYTHING they do going to be delayed or useless? They make updates and all that crap, give us Life and navigation updates, but games…? Dead in the water, Sony. Even people like myself who bought the PS3 mainly for Blu-Ray are disappointed. Fanboys are the only one high on this system. People like myself, gamers who are looking around at other systems, are turned off by Sony’s continual string of screw-ups.
They just seem to screw the pooch at every turn!
