Speaking at GC Asia, Crytek’s Cevat Yerli has confirmed that the next generation of CryEngine will be release on the next round of console hardware.

The Studio boss said he expects the next tech round in either 2011 or 2012, and that 360′s successor will arrive a year before the next PlayStation.

Having estimated the console cycle, Crytek must now consider the technology inside the next boxes.

“That knowledge should be used to differentiate your game from the competition,” he said, explaining why it’s imperative to shift now, instead of attempting to eke the rest from this hardware cycle.

I’m more interested in CryEngine 5 on PS5 and XBOX2880

Jesus, I’ve got a monster machine and Crysis is barely playable at 2560×1600 on very high.

I just can’t see Sony being ready to release PS4 in 2012. They seem committed to ensuring that PS3 has a long life span, and the surest way to curtail that is by launching new hardware.

I’ve got a feeling that we won’t see a repeat of last gen, where we get three new consoles within a year of each other, I think each company will be taking things at their own pace, which could of course make the life of developers particularly tricky.
