Afrika – 7/10
Words fail us, frankly. Eurogamer’s given Afrika a 7/10 review score, saying that the graphics are “a little disappointing.” After all that. Snip:
It’s not perfect. The visuals are a little disappointing; they’re pretty rather than stunning. While the animals look realistic they don’t exhibit much individual behaviour, and their actions can be predictable. And, oh all right, hiding behind bushes can get a bit boring.
Still. Afrika is one of the most pleasant, enjoyable and gently engrossing games I’ve played in a while. It’s a shame Sony isn’t releasing it here, and it’s worth importing. Especially if you’re the type of person who can imagine experiencing a special kind of thrill from snapping a monkey up a tree instead of shooting a zombie in the face. Though it’s not as much fun as running over a lion, obviously.
Read the rest, if you must.

I’m surprised too: all this time I thought Gibson’s keyboard didn’t have any numbers higher than ’4′ on it.

Looks wicked. It’s like Endless Ocean but in high def and has land animals instead of fish.

Expected. Looks good. Nice, lovingly crafted fun for all the family.
Looks FAR less ridiculous than Far Cry 2.

I would’ve quoted this bit! :p
“Afrika isn’t about violence, and it’s not designed to provide fast-paced thrills or test your reflexes. It offers a more serene, relaxed, even soothing experience, and rewards you for patience and gentleness.”

You WHAT?!
Patience. Waiting for animals to do certain things, that’s in the game.
Gentleness. Carefully and gently creeping forward with the analog stick to avoid the hippo going mental, that’s there too.
You are rewarded for doing these things.
What’s there to throw up about you crazy nincompoop?

“What’s there to throw up about you crazy nincompoop?”
The word gentle should never be used to describe a video game.
“Carefully creeping forward with the analog stick to avoid the hippo going mental, that’s there too.”
Sounds a little better

It’s a better score than the brilliant Endless Ocean.

“The word gentle should never be used to describe a video game.”
Why not?
Gentle perfectly describes a lot of my video game experiences, be it watching Yorda piss about on her own when playing ICO, happily skipping through the castle grounds in Mario 64 or crusing down a mountain in SSX3, not bothering to do a single trick, just taking it all in.
Maybe you’re confusing ‘gentle’ with ‘gentile’ but even then, so what, gentile’s as good an experience as gentle.
