Gears of War 2 weapons described in new movie… and is that the Predator?

gearsofwar33.jpg

After the break. It’s Cliff and the boys talking about the guns in Gears of War 2. There are plenty of them, from the sound of it, as well as new grenades full of poison.

Watch the “sniper skull crush.” Watch as something looking distinctly like the fucking Predator turns up. Seriously.

So pumped. Watch it.

!!! - just managed to pause it on a fairly clear frame. It’s definitely predator-like that’s for sure… love the dreads.

  2. patlike said:

    I did a proper :o

  3. mortiferus said:

WOW, the predator is AWESOME looking!!! Epic has revamped everything beautifully. The level of polish is astounding. Hey has anyone confirmed the frame rate? Last I heard they were doing a lockdown at 45 FPS.

  4. morriss said:

Game of the fucking year. You can take your LBP and stick up your….

    Seriously, though. Need this game.

  5. ecu said:

Why am I the only person that doesn’t like to have everything about games ruined for me before I play them?

  6. morriss said:

Because you’re a big girl? Limp-wristed? Can only do 5 sit-ups? Not a fan of Tiger Woods?

  7. morriss said:

Seriously though, I see your point. But a “spoiler” like this only heightens my excitement.

  8. ecu said:

If I watch videos like this, I end up going through the game going “oooh a new weapon.. oh, wait, no I’ve seen it before in the trailer. Oh well.” or “when’s that weapon I saw in the trailer going to appear”

Exactly the same goes for story too. I’ve seen one trailer for Gears 2, that bit with the locusts attacking them while they’re flying. Now if that’s not the first level of the game, I’m going to be playing that entire game and constantly waiting for that scene until it appears.

  9. Psychotext said:

I suggest you live in a bunker, avoiding everything. :)

  10. ecu said:

I tend to do that on a lot of the big game releases now.

  11. No_PUDding said:

That was less about the guns and how they made this game as gory as possible.

  12. Psychotext said:

Somehow I’ve managed to avoid all the MGS4 spoilers… though it probably helps that I skipped most of the story in the first three so I don’t really understand what people are talking about anyway! :D

  13. morriss said:

Compared with LBP, ths is nothing. I feel like I’ve already played LBP for hours.

  14. No_PUDding said:

    That was difficult as hell.

And the fricken Big Boss screen ruined a huge part.

But it all could have been done in the movie, and forgive me for assuming but the story kind of isn’t as important here.

  15. absolutezero said:

What exactly does this have to do with LBP?

    O RITE EXBAX PSLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

  16. ecu said:

I still haven’t played MGS4, and I’m still trying to avoid spoilers.

I refuse to play it until I get a new HD TV, and it’s going to cost me a further £70 for the game + dual shock.

  17. No_PUDding said:

Heh, well you’ve heard all the gripes now, and sorry for the massive spoiler. I assumed anyone who wanted to has already played it.

And I agree it has very little to do with LBP. This game couldn’t really be furtehr the opposite.

  18. morriss said:

Abzero: The only thing this has to do with LBP is the amount of media saturation and hype surrounding both games thus leading to potential spoilers. I think the comparison is a fair one, tbh.

  19. ecu said:

It’s not too big of a spoiler since I can only remember you said something about Big Boss, which doesn’t really spoil much in that context. :P But yeah, you should never assume it’s safe to post spoilers about a game that’s been out for less than a year.

I can’t wait to play it, but my idea of holding back all the 360/PS3 games I want to play until I can play them on HDTV is a right pain. Hopefully it’ll be worth it when I finally get one.

  20. No_PUDding said:

I should never assume it makes an ass out of you and me.

    Will be worth it.

Wish I could afford a better setup.

Morriss, I think Gears of War 2 is more comparable to Resistance 2 really, if you’re going to say one game is better.

Personally I’d prefer not have a game that’s selling point are how you can smash someones face in ‘better’ this time round. Or how you can mince people. Why I am gonna be missing out on R2. What happened to Insomniacs innocence?

  21. morriss said:

I’m not comparing the games. I’m comparing the fact that both of them are in the media all the time and how that exposure relates to the game being “spoiled”.

Nothing to do with anything else.

  22. No_PUDding said:

“Compared with LBP, ths is nothing. I feel like I’ve already played LBP for hours.”

“Game of the fucking year. You can take your LBP and stick up your….

    Seriously, though. Need this game.”

    You sure?

  23. morriss said:

Bloody hell. Ok, I’ve got a bee in my bonnet about the amount of press there is surrounding LBP - it’s getting in my nerves. However, that’s not reflection on the game itself.

The second quote was a joke. It was me playing the role of an over-hyped, agressive kid wanting to shoot things and thus picking on a relatively “innocent” game. And I did say “Seriously though,” as in, “now I’m being serious”, as in, “that last sentence wasn’t.”

    It was for fun.

    Sorry.

  24. No_PUDding said:

    Don’t apologise.

Just horses for courses. I don’t even care if you hate on the game. Becuase I know why I think it’s gonna be great.

Don’t want it a tiny bit for the single player - so I can see what you mean. I want to play single player with people online (so it’s co-op instead) I know who are also hyped for it, and some of my friends on the same side of the TV as me.

And I want to create a mining game with the damageable material we’ve seen.

  25. deanimate said:

looks good. Fallout 3 is more my thing personally, but i look forward to trying this out if it ever pops up on the PC.

  26. No_PUDding said:

Oblivion is my reason to hate Fallout 3.

Morrowind is my dream, and Bethesda will fail forever now.

Until they open a small indie sub-studio.

  27. pjmaybe said:

LOL @ Morriss’ total wrongness about LBP.

GOW2 does look good though. But eesh, even comparing the two seems downright rude to me.

No PC version planned though Deanimate so it looks like you’ll have to sully yerself with a 360 if you want to play it.

  28. morriss said:

    lol@peej’s reading skills.

I’m not being “wrong” about it. I think it looks excellent. Where have I said I haven’t in these comments?

I’ve just commented on the intense media blow-out that has surrounded the game. Nothing else.

  29. Psychotext said:

Aye, I’m completely sick of the media overload for the game. Drip drip drip.

That’s coming from someone who likes the game enough to buy a console for it. :D

  30. morriss said:

Innit. It’s been nuts. You just wait until October. It’s going to go fucking mental.

  31. pjmaybe said:

Morriss, you’ve given the game a kicking in other VG247 stories, stating you don’t “get it” and you “don’t think it’s going to be all that” so don’t try wriggling out of it. Face it, you just can’t draw :)

  32. morriss said:

I’ve expressed concerns over the “game” part of it. However, those fears have been allayed by people telling me there are over 50 pre-made levels, and a “campaign” so to speak that last 8-10 hours.

Since I found that out I haven’t said a word.

  33. pjmaybe said:

Alright, I’ll let you off. But Pat’s not getting a chrimbo card this year cos he doesn’t like it either.

  34. patlike said:

I’m converted! The last movie “clicked” for me. I’m excited now.

  35. morriss said:

Pat just likes shooting and killing and the odd bit of WoW. I admire him for it.

  36. Blerk said:

But peej, give it about three months and you won’t like it any more either. :-D

  37. patlike said:

morriss - Yep, that’s about the size of it. I’m all man.

  38. morriss said:

I’m in intensive training just to try and earn the right to play Gears 2 with Pat. Need to man up some more.

  39. pjmaybe said:

OK pat you’re back on the list.

Blerk. Of COURSE I won’t. But I will have at least played it for a bit first BEFORE getting all uppity about it :)

  40. Shatner said:

I read this topic, and in particular morriss’s stance on it and enjoyment of mentioning LBP at every instance and all I could think of was

    “drip drip drip”

Oh, and for the few months it’s actually been in the public eye, I’d say we’ve had far more “drip drip drip” coverage of Gears 2 than LBP has had over the same duration.

But then, some media saturation good, some media saturation bad eh morriss?

  41. pjmaybe said:

Any news about LBP, even drip-fed, is good news AFAIC.

Gears 2. Dunno. Just a run and gunner. A pretty one, sure and one that’ll probably make the 360’s core audience blow their load into their pee-stained superman pants, but LBP is the more exciting game for me.

  42. morriss said:

Didn’t say which was good and which was bad. Just said that imo, the LBP coverage has been overwhelming.

The whole thing was in response to ecu saying that he didn’t want stuff spoiled. I then thought about it and thought about just how much we already know about LBP due to the pyscho-media saturation of late. I then made a comment about it and the LBP/Sony fanboys started getting all defensive and threw loads of hints and allegations around. Isn’t that right Shatner?

  43. Shatner said:

“Didn’t say which was good and which was bad. Just said that imo, the LBP coverage has been overwhelming.”

    But before that you said:

“Bloody hell. Ok, I’ve got a bee in my bonnet about the amount of press there is surrounding LBP - it’s getting in my nerves.”

I’m sure I must be completely confused. :)

Just as confused as the irony that someone in the games press being annoyed at the amount of press a game is getting and then talking about said game all over the shop.

If you’re so upset about the games press talking about something then, as a member of the games press, why do you insist on talking about it all the time?

Odd behaviour morriss. Unless you just enjoy fabricating scenarios that you can rally against in comments sections. ;)

  44. pjmaybe said:

Shatner’s ace isn’t he. He reminds me of those little blokeys sitting in some guy’s empty head in the old Topper comic strip, “The Nurdles”

    Are you constantly beetroot-red, dude?
