NA Xbox 360 price drop does sorta OK, raises sales 100%

Kotaku recently received word that Microsoft is slightly pleased with the natural sales enhancement its console received following its recent batch of US price drops.

“Coming off the heels of the console price drop last week, Microsoft Xbox 360 sales have surged, with retailers reporting over 100% sales lift for all Xbox 360 models compared to the previous weekend,” reads the statement.

“Additionally, retailers are reporting that between Friday, Sept. 5 and Sunday, Sept. 7, some Xbox 360 models were selling at six times the rate they were the weekend prior.”

Pretty impressive. Shame Microsoft can’t pull the price drop shtick every week.

Hmm, would be nice if we had a £115 Xbox.

I’d consider one again if they brought a HDD-only model. Something to download XBLA games with no noisy DVD drive

The new firmware should sort that out, shouldn’t it? You can install any game entirely to the hard drive and the disc only spins for the security check when you boot it. Faster loading, no horrific disc drive noise.

I can find plenty of bad things to say about Microsoft if you like? I always have bad stuff to say about everyone. It’s kind of a hobby of mine.

I’ll say it once more: new 60Gb 360s have no horrific drive noise. Well, mine doesn’t at least.

With such overwhelming proof there can be no room for any doubt. The 60Gb 360 is noiseless.

Thank you. At last! I’ve been trying to say this all along.

It all depends on your drive model anyway, doesn’t it?

My Elite that I bought about 6 months or so ago is much quieter than the Premium that I had for a couple of years.

I’m not sure about the drive (maybe I’ve just gotten used to the sound, but I don’t notice it) but the fans seem much quieter.

I’m sure the new 60gb ones will be the same or better…

The DVD drive on my old premium was insanely noisy and one of the main reasons I got rid (that and instability of the system – I’ve had PCs that have crashed less). The fans were loud too, but no worse than a fat PS2.

My PS3 has absolutely no drive noise but you can still hear the fans whirring away. It’s pretty ridiculous that modern consoles are so noisy. The PS3 is louder than my projector and seems to give off more heat FFS!

Anyway, I still vote for an HDD-only model of the 360. Make it smaller with plenty of room for XBLA content
