In his award acceptance speech at CEDEC, Japan's biggest developer conference, Shigeru Miyamoto said today that he wants to keep pushing forwards. God love him.

"I think, even as I get older, I want to keep striving," he said. "I think anyone who still has the opportunity to work still feels that way.

"Honestly, as society recognizes gaming bit by bit, I think we should all do our best so that the game business flourishes and the number of the children who want to enter the industry multiplies."

Patrick Garratt is a games media legend - and not just by reputation. He was named as such in the UK's 'Games Media Awards', the equivalent of a lifetime achievement award. After garnering experience on countless gaming magazines, he joined Eurogamer and later split from that brand to create VG247, putting the site on the map with fast, 24-hour a day coverage, and assembling the site's earliest editorial teams. He retired from VG247, and the games industry, in 2017.
