The NPD results are in, and against all predictions Xbox 360 outsold PlayStation 3 in August in the US.
The Microsoft machine sold 195,200 machines to PS3’s 185,400 consoles.
Both Michael Pachter and EEDAR predicted a PS3 win in the HD console market.
Expect Microsoft to go PR mental over this.

Fighting for the silver, no, bronze, no.. wait, what’s less than bronze?
We’re basically saying here “look which console got the least crushed by the DS, Wii and PSP!”

I’ll say one thing… I’m never siding with Pachter again!

PSP?
Really?

No… Not really.

I think he means the PS3 / 360 vs the rest.

Talking of PR… I just saw the Sony release. They’re back to using PlayStation family numbers and attach rates. Ouch.

I’d like to know who actually makes the most money these days, except the obvious Wii.

Figures for Y/E 2008 were:
Nintendo: $2,480m
MS: $532m
Sony: -$1,254m

I mean per machine, after the 360 price cut. Are they selling it without any profit at all? Like the PS3?
Psychotext said:
We don’t really have a clue. I doubt MS is making any money on the machines after the price cut though.

The Xbox 360 vs PS3 fight seems to be basically over in the USA. While PS3 may sell a few thousand more units in any particular month, the Microsoft console still has millions more sales ‘banked’.
Different story in Europe and Japan but the bottom line is that PS3 is never going to sell as many units as Xbox 360 in the USA.

Careful dude, you’ll set them off again. Apparently, anyone who thinks the 360 has a strong hold on the US is living in La La Land and should keep quiet and admit they are wrong (as some guy found out a few days ago).
Never mind the fact that even if the PS3 sold 100k a month more than the 360, EVERY single month from here on in, then, working on the basis of 300k p/m for the PS3 and 200k p/m for the 360, it would still take five years and two months before the PS3 took over the lead. Ten years and four months for a (more realistic) consistent 50k a month lead.

Bronco 100k a month means Sony should catch up… by 2014. The difference in the US is steep dude. I honestly believe with the price drops 360 will outsell ps3 from here on out in the USA till next year.
Bronco said:
Mortiferus – that’s what I said. Five years and two months takes us to November 2013, or one month before 2014 arrives. I was supporting the view that the PS3 will likely never catch the 360 in the US, which some dude got slapped down for insisting earlier this week.
