Australian Fallout 3 version to ship globally to avoid “confusion”

Speaking to Edge, Bethesda’s Peter Hines has confirmed that the version of Fallout 3 censored to pass for release in Australia will be the version that ships worldwide.

“We want to make sure folks understand that the Australian version of Fallout 3 is identical to both the UK and North American versions in every way, on every platform,” he said.

“An issue was raised concerning references to real world, proscribed drugs in the game, and we subsequently removed those references and replaced them with fictional names.

“To avoid confusion among people in different territories, we decided to make those substitutions in all versions of the game, in all territories.”

Thanks, Australia!

It could’ve been worse, I suppose.

Could of had the German version instead. Everyone just stands around in a post-nuclear war wasteland.

They should just scrap the game. Wouldn’t offend anyone, then.

Will Germany get the same version as well? Or will it simply not get released there?

I’ve no idea why Bethesda was using real drug names in the game anyway, the previous Fallouts never did with things like Jet in there why bother? Plus you’re not really going to be growing cocaine in the post-nuclear environment when you’d be better off growing food on the same land.
