I hope they don't change the controls. Strafe isn't at all needed, RE4 was great without it, and it added to the tension. Doing this will just put it in with a pack of similar action games, with nothing much to elevate it above other games of that genre. It'd be such a shame.

I've no problem with them making RE games like this, but I do wish they'd also make slower paced, more tradition Resident Evil games too. They're a big enough company to develop both types of RE games side by side.

It fell of my radar after it's showing at E3, I really didn't like what I saw. This isn't helping.

Resident Evil is (or was) a survival horror series. I guess this is a result of Japanese devs looking at what's works in the west. Money wins, we lose.

Me too, I liked RE4's controls. Would be sad to see them being removed.

Let's hope VG247 comment posters are RE4's target audience. ;)

I wouldn't mind them changing the controls if it didn't automatically change the feel of the game. I guess that remains to be seen. It's the content change that's most worrying, not how you use the pad.

I wonder if you'll finally be able to strafe?

Yeah, no other games has ever used a cover system before.

I find this stupid, I liked RE4's controls.

I reckon the cover system's a given. That was the Gears hallmark, really.

I share Blerk's uneasyness with this announcement. Res Evil has always been about picking your shots and making them count, hence the control system to reflect that. Yes it was limited, but that was the point. You thought before shooting rather than shoot and then think.

One thing I would throw out there, when he says "Gears-style", that could mean many different things. They could be just using a similar cover-system to gears or going full-hog and having twin-stick run and gun.

It'll make it officially an "action" game, especially in co-op. Could be the end of an era. Sounds as though it's going to end up being a "filmic" shooter, to be honest.

Hmm. I have to admit that I didn't really mind the 'stop and shoot' mechanic, if only because it stopped the game from turning into a 'run around like a girl firing wildly' marathon.

That said, Capcom have clearly shown in the demos so far that they want to throw zombi.... whatever they are at you in Gears-style packs at super speed, so perhaps new controls will be needed in order to cope with the faster pacing.

It's just a bit of a shame that yet another series has to turn into a straight action-based third-person shooter. I was kind of hoping they might use the opportunity to refine the Resi 4 model and add back some of the atmosphere rather than go the other way and turn it into a fully-formed bug hunt. :-|
