PC Gamer reviews Spore in latest issue
UK mag PC Gamer has published the first UK review of EA’s Christmas mega-risk, Spore.
It’s not what you’d think, either. The mag’s given it 91 percent, questioning a “completely unacceptable” lack of auto-save and saying the game’s “biggest, dumbest and most easily fixable flaw” is the inability to back out of wars you accidentally stumble into in the latter stages of play.
The piece does, however, grant that Spore’s “beautiful,” “hilarious” and “annoyingly adorable.” Did you know there’s an AT-AT in it? We didn’t.
We’re sure someone will scan the review before too long.

FFS. Another high-profile and recent game with no autosave.

Completely insane. After *eight years* no one thought it might be a good idea?

Trying to remember if The Sims had an Autosave thing. I don’t think it did either. Just an option to save when you quit, or save manually during the game.
Guess you can’t teach an old dog new tricks after all. DOH!

It’s not like autosave (or rather the lack of it) ruins the game…

I think it might ruin it for me. I’m so used to not having to think about saving I know I’d just be shutting it down all the time and losing progress.

Mentioned it to Mrs Peej last night and she said “Don’t be a twat, Sims never had it – nor did Sim City!”
I’m pretty sure the latter did…or you could at least tweak the control panel so it autosaved..

I’d have thought the lack of autosave was the solution for getting out of a war that you’ve blundered into – just switch the pc off and re-load.
