Speaking to IGN, Gears of War 2 dev lead Cliff Bleszinski has poured cold water on the idea of a PC version of the shooter sequel. Basically, Epix isn’t making one.
“Gears of War is a great franchise first and foremost for Xbox 360, and therefore we’re focusing on that platform for Gears of War 2,” he said. “We’ve decided we’re not going to do a PC version this time around.”
So there you go. Boo hoo PC gamorz, etc.

To be fair, they did say that the first one was 360 only and then the PC version was announced like ages after. The other point is that Cliffy has said a great deal of other things about the business side of Epic that has either been ignorned or correct by mark rein. Not saying that he is lying, but I just wouldn’t take his word as gospel.

Well not surprising really, for whatever reasons PC gamers ignored or turned their nose up at Gears 1 despite it being a very fun game.
Epic shouldn’t bother wasting their time doing Gears 2 on the PC if there isn’t any interest that’s just common sense.

What? An actual exclusive 360 exclusive?! Impossible! Give it a year and it’ll be on PC.
Psychotext said:
I doubt they’ll bother. The PC version bombed and they never flat out said they weren’t going to last time.

what a cock face.

Say what you really think scuz.

I expect it to come to PC.
It’s a nice simple cheap port, and they will profit from it, and Microsoft tends to want their IP’s on both platforms, fair enough.
Psychotext said:
I think they’re starting to regret that standpoint. The first thing you hear when you talk about 360 exclusives is “I’ll buy it when it comes out on the PC” or “All the 360 exclusives worth playing are on the PC”.
Probably doesn’t help their console sales, at all. Depends what is more important to them though… shoring up the PC as a gaming platform and making money on Windows or getting the 360 into the living room and making money on licensing etc.
No_PUDding said:
Neither are doing fantastically well at the minute. And I don’t expect Gears of War 2 to sell any consoles.
It’s a new franchise that was introduced on the 360. People who want to play it, already have a 360.
I am sure there will be a little spike, but it would seem sensible to release it one PC too.
Psychotext said:
On its own? No… probably wouldn’t sell a whole bunch of consoles. But with other exclusives that don’t come to PC it probably could.
I’m sure their droids have run the numbers and know if it’s worthwhile or not.
No_PUDding said:
Well, I think this is Epic’s decision ( by the sounds of it) so Microsoft’s input will be included soon.
And I still don’t agree. Regardless of PC and console exclusivity; as you said the PC version didn’t sell as much, Gears of War 2 just isn’t that much of a system seller.
It’s a great game for income and to satiate the fanbase.
Psychotext said:
Epic can’t really make that many decisions on this… Microsoft are the publishers so what they say goes. I’d be astonished if this hadn’t been discussed prior to CB announcing it.
No_PUDding said:
He said the same thing about the last Gears.
I imagine if Microsoft want it done they will organise it.
Psychotext said:
They never denied that there was going to be a PC version last time. The closest they ever came to a denial was:
“There is no ‘new information’ that Gears will be released on PC. You know console games are developed on PCs, right? Even if we never release Gears of War on PC we still need to run the game on PC to develop and test content for it.”
…and you’re right. Of course if MS want the game on the PC they will make it happen.
No_PUDding said:
Well, then I expect it on PC.
They know it’s not a system seller as such, and just getting sales from a cheap port would be worth it.
Psychotext said:
I’m just a little confused that one of the two top guys at epic comes out and says “No PC version”… yet you still expect one.
This isn’t a fluffy PR denial.
No_PUDding said:
(By the way, not that it matters on a relatively old story, but, Epix?)
Well you can be as cynical as you like, but I think it’s now Microsoft’s decision (after release ofcourse) to get a PC version in the works.
I am just not crossing out the idea, that Microsoft could make some money from a cheap port, and for that reason it’s very likely.
They aren’t anywhere near as aware as you, about the 360 exclusivity with PC being a problem becuase they are Microsoft.
Psychotext said:
What… they’re ignorant of their potential customer base you mean? Sounds about right.
No_PUDding said:
Hah,
You know what I mean though.
