Sony on PS3 price: You’re “paying for potential”

Speaking with Gama, Sony’s Scott Steinberg has addressed the fact the the PS3 is the most expensive console on the market by saying its best is yet to come.

“The price of the PS3 is high but you’re paying for potential,” he said. “The ten-year strategy is ingrained in all of us. Jack [Tretton] has brought that to all levels of the organization.”

We’re leaving the comments up to you.

To be fair, he’s right. And you might as well wait until the system has a bit more to offer.

I’m sure it’ll find its feet, just like the PSP has.

Well I think now you can justify it. Certainly come LitleBigPlanet it will be justified.

I bought it 3 months after release in Europe. I thought it would be the PS2 again, and it’s only now, I can see that happening again. This time last year it looked like there was very little to look forward to.

The only thing that justifies it is Blu-ray.

Hmm, you can’t justify the 360 then, they are pretty much evenly justified now.

EDIT: Unless you mean price… haha. Then I totally agree. PS3 is still overpriced.

The price I still think is a too expensive, but to be fair then PS3 has come on leaps and bounds over the last year.

I would be more sympathtic to the 360 if I wasn’t on my 6th machine and I very much doubt now the 60GB machine is out, I’ll be able to swap it when this one dies.

360 does have Xbox Live and any mulitplayer game like Bad Company I will more than likely buy for the 360, but anything else and I’ll be getting the PS3 version.

Nuff said. I paid 400 euro’s so let everyone do it.. I mean, it’s worth it. As long as at least SOMETHING stays exclusive.

Well first party guarentees that. And I know it seemed all promises before. Thigns are startign to materialise, and my purchase has certianly been justified. And I actually only own 1 exclsuive from this year. MGS4 obviously.

No Scott, I’m not paying for potential. I don’t want to pay for potential. This is precisely the problem.

I paid less for my PS3 than my 360, I’m less afraid every time I switch it on and I’d say I play it more simply because my (limited) library on PS3 actually has greater variety of gameplay across it.

More RPGs and quirky games (not that there’s a deficit of quirky games) are always welcome though.

I still can’t get over MS’s 75 euro price tag for it’s wireless connector. They really needed a redesign launched at E3, which incorporated wireless, a larger hard drive, the jasper set and a quieter disc drive. That would have at least given it a bit of a fresh look, and stop it looking so long in the tooth next to PS3.

You can use third-party wireless connectors, though. Why go with the stupidly-priced official one? You wouldn’t buy official video cables. Would you? :-D

The quieter disc drive would’ve been nice, but the ‘copy the game disc to hard drive’ feature isn’t a bad compromise.

I only know of one unofficial wifi adapter, and that was only ten pounds cheaper, had less features and was a nightmare to set up.

I mean even the DS and PSP came with wireless built it, it just seemed like a glaring omission, especially for a machine who’s biggest feature is it’s online services.

Don’t get me wrong here – I am surprised they haven’t built it in yet. They can’t be that expensive, surely? My dad wifi-ed his PC up for a tenner.

Until God of War 3 and Wipeout HD get released, there’s absolutely nothing on the PS3 that sparks my interest a jot – and that includes LBP and Uncharted.

…and Hazelol.
