GRID will generate £32 million in revenue, says Codies boss

Codemasters head Rod Cousens told attendees to this week’s Edinburgh Festival that Race Driver: GRID cost “about £6.8 million” to develop while forecasting it will generate £32 million in revenue.

He also showed Operation Flashpoint to the crowd, saying the action game cost more than the celebrated racer but still fell short of the $20 million plus “mega” category.

“Flashpoint was more expensive than GRID but it won’t cost us $20m to develop – and yet we can compete with games made with three to five times that budget,” he said.

    that game was the epitome of what direction the games industry shouldn’t go in, awful awful game, pretty but utterly useless as a game.

    I think you’ve got that the wrong way round Scuz. In a sea of me-too driving “sims” this stood out as a good arcade racer with distinctive gameplay. Distinctive gamplay in this genre is impressive in itself. Whether it floated your boat or not is another matter but it should be applauded for trying to stand out from the crowd.

    Agreed – GRiD was an amazing achievement on Codies’ part. Shame I’m shit at all racing games aside from OutRun, Ridge Racer and WipeOut.

    You are talking out of your rear Scuz. Clearly you prefer a game where you can corner @ 100mph, use the barriers to guide yourself around the track. I suggest you actually try GRID before you make a comment.
