18 hours of combat not enough to topple FFXI mega-boss

ffxi2.jpg

Awesome. According to this PetFoodAlpha post, a Final Fantasy XI guild went up against one of the big bosses in the MMO last week and had to quit after fighting constantly for 18 hours.

The baddie, Pandemonium Warden, apparently changed form 20 times during the battle, which left players literally passing out and vomiting with exhaustion.

Lightweights, clearly. More through the link. Thanks, Kotaku.

They should have cast Magic Missile.

There were Everquest bosses (Lord Nagafen is one I think) that are supposedly unbeatable and teams of players would still try to take them down.

Raid-size groups would attack en-mass with each team running out to heal in turns. However, these bosses were never meant to be defeated so when, after hours of toil they got close, the server would either mysteriously crash or the boss would proc the entire raid.

Later the bosses were changed so that they could be defeated. Not sure how long it took back then but now they can be taken down in minutes.

I’m sure someone told me they had to wait in one place in Dark Age of Camelot for 72 hours for a dragon to materialise, or something. I’m pretty sure I’m not making that up.

MMO players are a special breed of headcase.

Shatner: No, they should have called the A-Team for help.

There are Silver Elite mobs in WoW that only spawn every few hours and then disappear after a while. They usually drop an item unique to them. I find the item isn’t usually worth it as you’ll have better stuff already.

Some of the big bosses in WoW sound completely mental. Those 40-man raids take up to eight hours, apparently. Fuck that.

WoW raids (like CoH’s task forces) can be done over several nights rather than in one go.
