Speaking to Develop in London yesterday, Xbox Europe marketing boss David Gosen said that Microsoft research shows that the majority of those who took the plunge with Wii Fit only played it once.
“What Nintendo have done with the Wii is truly fantastic – there is no question about it. But I think sometimes there is a thin line between gimmick and great gameplay,” he said.
“We’ve seen some research that says 60 percent of people who bought a Wii Fit play it once and don’t play it again. So we have to get the balance right, because what we are doing is bringing new consumers into the market for the first time in their lives sometimes – and we have to treat them with respect.
“And at the end of the day that comes back down to creativity. We have to ensure that the peripheral strategy that anyone employs makes sense and delivers a truly game changing experience.”

Prat. Why on earth would anyone buy something that expensive to play just once. Where does he get his information from? The Sun?
And he used the phrase “At the end of the day” which makes him an even bigger prat

Peej, I’ve purchased it as a gift for my wife (bought it at launch, gave it to her mid May) and she still hasn’t opened it yet. Considering it’s been through most of summer (when people want to feel fit) I’m beginning to doubt my gift-purchase skills

Is this really his place to say?
Not only that if they’d had the chance to sell something people will only use once but sold well into the millions, they’d jump at the chance.
I guess it’s not my place to say, since I don’t own a 360.

Well count me in as one of the 60%. Thankfully the kids and their mates are getting much more amusement out of it.

I think the summer + humid sticky heat + wii fit = drop in usage personally. I haven’t used mine in ages, much prefer to either go out or go swimming. Tis too bloody hot for all that jiggling about.
Still not Gosen’s place to say though – not without backing it up with some serious evidence.

Why can’t he just concentrate on getting his own shop in order instead of taking needless pops at his former employees (for whom he was a total joke figure for a long time)? Buffoon.

I think he’s on to something here. Most Wii fit owners I know played it for a month then the novelty and the results wore off.
It’s kinda like brain age or brain academy on DS, I bought them both but after 2 or 3 months I lost interest. However I think this is not just specific to the Wii or DS and I really doubt that people give up after one session, that’s crazy exaggeration ! How much does Wii Fit cost again?

Sony research proves: 60% of other console buyers are probably gay!
MS research … pff.

Only used once? The same thing can be said about most exercise equipment, with the main difference here being that unused stationary bikes are easier to hang clothes on.

I bought it for the missus. She’s played it on her own….once. True story. Wasted my fucking money.

I don’t care that much to be honest. And that’s why I don’t want to hear it from a Marketing Rep.
He needs to get his damn act togther.
