LittleBigPlanet will suck, says GameDaily

littlebigplanet.jpg

GameDaily has published a top ten of “games that will probably suck,” and LittleBigPlanet leads the charge at number one.

“Despite the cute characters, this is nothing more than a glorified version of PowerPoint fuelled by gamers hoping to make their own ‘presentations’,” says the piece.

“Talented players will create interesting and perhaps fun designs. Everyone else will make horrible levels.

“If you could design several stages, string them together and make your own platform game, that’d be cool, but for now, all we foresee is tons of crap content.”

Other notables include Wii Music and Silent Hill: Homecoming. Genius.

Full thing through the link, obviously.

So, what if that does happen? Will it harm their investment in the game? Frankly, I think it’s unlikely to be like that. Because, most people will try, perhaps groups will form for the same purpose. Also, because, you don’t have to make and distribute whole levels, you might make a great “mechanism”, or object, and you can make that available to others. Or, yeah, why not just mess around, and – shock horror – experiment (which, of course, is the whole idea of the concept, AND of MM making the game exclusively from tools that will be included in the finished product)? You paid the money, why not just enjoy your game?!? Why is that prospect a negative outcome?

Further, inspiration can come from many sources. So, that pool of ideas, of community creativity; even if the whole isn’t brimming with genius, is sure to have veins of brilliance that then inspire others.

Then, there’s a concept of community feedback. Of rating everyone’s work.
I just cannot currently subscribe to the theory that the game may suck, because the community are NOT BLOODY GAMES PROGRAMMERS. The point is, they’re not asked to be. All Media Molecule is trying to do, is encourage people to try, and see where things go, and they’ve said they are prepared to support such a stance, and the game going forward.

I think their success, because of the precedent that it looks as if they will set, is likely.

Silent Hill could go either way, and I’m not sure at all about it, now. Visually, it could be SH, but it’s taking cues from the movie…It may become added to “the list”, but perhaps reviews will clear things up, a bit. Wii Music’s E3 presentation did look a bit silly, but, again, I witnessed people having genuine fun on that stage, demonstrating the game. While it almost surely isn’t for everyone, I can see it finding an appreciative audience.

It’s a shame, really – there have been a few pieces on GD in the past few months I’ve been quietly impressed with, but this is just a blatant play at attention.

    Silly.

I like GameDaily. They do some good stuff. I’m going to be extremely interested to see how LBP pans out, to be honest. I think it’s either going to succeed amazingly or just not work.

GameDaily gave MGS4 an 8/10 for glass not breakign properly and wine bottles beign modelled badly. Generally for not tying the details in.

I am sorry. The 8/10 is not the problem, but the scathign review over thigns like that, when there’s far more prominent problems like lack of gameplay.

I just don’t understand why such an extensive and beautiful game can be so harshly reviewed, unless they want some hits.

They want some hits. TBH the naysayers can just stay the fuck away from it, and I won’t exactly be sorry not to see ‘em involved in the creative community surrounding LBP.

I think it’ll be like GTA – another game that people knock to try and make themselves look l33t

    GTAIV did suck though.

I respect Rockstar for making a game that has an awesome feel of NYC, but the only thing that keeps me coming back for more is the Euphoria technology.

    LittleBigPlanet we’ve yet to judge.

It may be the GTA of this generation. Beucase I can’t imagine Wii Fit is the thing of this generation. There’s gotta be a hardcore thing.

As a person who has played through hundreds and hundreds of horrible user-made levels dating back to the Doom days, I can see where this person is coming from when they say that LBP will suck. ;)

Making a good level in any game takes a lot of time, effort, and play-testing, not to mention creativity, imagination, and talent. These are all things that 99% of amateur level designers don’t have.

    I’m curious about LBP.

I don’t think it’ll be the ‘OMG’ or system cornerstone which a lot of people seem to think it’ll be.

/Would’ve prefered it as a PSN release

It’s not a PSN release any more? Damn I should read more news.
