Microsoft: Microtransactions for Avatars “may be in the future”
Uh oh. Microsoft’s John Schappert gave an unnerving answer to VentureBeat when asked at E3 whether or not Xbox Live’s Avatar’s will come with microtransactions attached.
“That may be in the future,” he said. “In the near term, we want to launch these with great customization and a great library of accessories this fall.
“I think there is a lot more we can do with them. You will see us continue to add experiences that make use of the Avatar.”
Avatars were, of course, announced at E3 as part of the upcoming Xbox dashboard reboot. Tons more through the link.

I think we know it’s coming for the MS and Sony services. Nike hat? £0.10 please.

Aye, still, if there’s enough people who want to pay for that, instead of Sony charging me directly for online play, fair enough.

Yeah I thought this was pretty much on the cards but really does anyone care ?
To those that like to play dress up with their avatars (don’t call them dolls) will buy whatever accessories they want, the rest will ignore it. Which is exactly the scenario you have with the gamertag pictures as of now.

If people are willing to pay for Gamerpics and themes then they’re willing to pay for other personalised stuff. Makes perfect sense.

It’s not really any different to buying a tiny little GamerPic that you can barely see even on your HD-TVs, but they’ll actually be a little more dynamic than those, so it’s an obvious course to take.
Lets just hope the prices are sensible.
