According to this Shacknews report, John Carmack said at QuakeCon today that the 360 version of Rage will suffer visually because of the compression requirements of squeezing the game onto two DVDs.
According to Carmack, the royalty fees to include a third disc in the Xbox 360 version would be so high that it simply isn’t a feasible solution. The id head apparently said he’s hoping for Microsoft to make a concession on the matter.

Well, you can’t deny that. But what if they added the install-feature to this game for the 360. They said it’s possible. Maybe they can add a compressed package with textures of high-quality which could be uncompressed to the 360’s HDD. This could be an option.

Looks like PC will be the only place to play this… given Carmack has already said both the PS3 and 360 versions will have issues.
