Hype overwhelming: The Conduit brings home truckload of E3 awards

Tuesday, 29th July 2008 08:43 GMT By Patrick Garratt

This one’s already almost guaranteed to sell through the roof, but why not give it one more push? GoNintendo sends word that High Voltage Software has made a few new additions to its trophy case. Says the press release:

“In a limited showing throughout the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) Media and Business Summit, The Conduit has managed to earn accolades including:

  • Best Wii Game of E3 (IGN.com)
  • Best Wii Shooter of E3 (IGN.com)
  • Best Graphics Technology on Wii (IGN.com)
  • Honorable Mention for Real-Time Control on Wii (IGN.com)
  • Best Wii Game of E3 (Gametrailers.com)
  • Top 20 Games of E3 (Edge-online.com)

Quite impressive. Looks like all the hype may very well be warranted. Guess we’ll find out when the game launches in early ’09.

Of course, what they fail to mention is that it was the only Wii “game” at E3. :-D

Nintendo and everyone are claiming “You can’t think of the Wii as one of those OTHER machines, we’re new, we’re different, we’ll take you places. LOVE US”

And the moment a game comes along that goes against everything that the Wii is meant to be about and says “Hay guyz. We can do pwetty grafix and games like them other guyz. LOVE US” people go spazzo over it.

The whole perception of this is that its good for a Wii game is bollocks. It’s a game in 2008. It looks pretty average for a game in 2008. I don’t think bonus points should be awarded just because it runs on a modified Gamecube.

Yeah, but the thing is – this’ll probably go on to sell a mediocre number of units at retail, regardless of critical acclaim. The specialist media are excited because it’s finally something they can relate to. The few people still clinging to the Wii as a proper, traditional gaming machine are no doubt over the moon. The vast majority of the Wii user-base will shrug and pick up Clipping Your Nose Hair Trainer.
