Games for Windows Live is now free

Microsoft’s announced that Games for Windows Live is now free to download.

The essentially means that anyone with a Windows machine can have their Live friends list on their PC, and can now enjoy “free multiplayer”. Kind of like the way they already could without using Games for Windows Live.

Hit this for more details and to download the software.

Well, who’d have ever thunk that PC gamers wouldn’t want to pay money for something they could already do for free?

How long before they put Xbox Live prices up to pay for this, then? :-D

GFWL was always a waste of time and the fact it doesn’t work outside of a GFWL title, there’s no systrap app so you can use it while doing other PC things like you can with Steam or Xfire, meant no-one was ever that fussed.

Early releases didn’t allow you to use the mouse to navigate the blades either, which is completely stupid.

Same price as Xbox Live, it also granted you Xbox Live Gold membership too.

Current number of games that support GFWL multiplay : 6.
Number of people, hopefully, stupid enough to pay for that : 0
