June NPD gets analysed to death
Edge, nee Next-Gen, has published its monthly NPD analysis feature, graphs and all. This one takes in the fact that six months is now up for the year, so is well worth your time. You need to be able to argue indefinitely in comments threads about American Xbox 360 sales curves, right?

Interesting stuff, as ever.
For me, it’s the PS3 that’ll be most interesting to watch over the coming months. MGS4 definitely had an impact, but I strongly suspect (as the article also suggests) that a large part of that was down to the 80GB bundle they released in the States.
With sony very publicly and firmly turning their back on the main feature that made that 80GB pack so desirable – PS2 backwards compatibility – I wonder if we’ll ever see such a sales spike again.
I’d predict minor bumps whenever a new core PS3 exclusive title releases or a price cut takes effect, but now that Sony has finally put all its divergent PS3 SKUs (apart from the forthcoming 80GB sans BC) to rest, punters finally know what they’re able to get and sales are less likely to show such dramatic fluctuations.

I think PS3 sales will stay at an increased rate from previous months next month… though obviously not as high as June. Now people know BC is never coming back I think they’re going to be trying hard to find the BC consoles ASAP.

Is this link a sign of something on the way, perhaps?

It’s true, I’m a complete sell-out. I’m almost embarrassed to be me.
