A ” major developer” has apparently told Joystiq that Sony’s “answer to Achievements” will be enforced by the company for every new release from 2009 onwards.
Loads of padding through the link.

From linked article “also hearing that Sony may be enforcing some measure of uniqueness between spoils earned on its console versus the Xbox 360.” – that sounds a bit petty and silly. There is already one unique trophy for all games which support it anyway – the platinum one. I was against mandatory trophies as I want the devs to put them in because they want to rather than are forced to. As long as there is no mandatory X Bronze, Y Silver, Z Gold + 1 Platinum it shouldn’t be too bad.

They should’ve been mandatory for new PS3 games from the moment 2.40 was being worked on. Absolutely idiotic that they’re not.

Agreed Retroid.

I also agree with Retroid. I was pretty angry that I didn’t get any trophies after that. I know that they can’t go in and make it backwards compatible immediately with all the other games, but still…I really love the achievements on the 360. They are fun and cool and a great carrot for me to replay the games. I guess the thing is that Sony only has like 2 games that are worth a crap that are not on the 360, so I guess it isn’t worth the effort. They just keep dropping the ball.
