June NPD: PS3 achieves almost 2:1 sales over 360

June NPD figures have shown that PS3 outsold Xbox 360 by almost 2:1 in the US last month, thanks in the main to the release of Metal Gear Solid 4. As ever, though, DS and Wii were untouchable at the top, although the gap between PS3 and Wii isn’t as severe as it’s been in recent months. Figures below.

  • DS – 783k
  • Wii – 666.7k
  • PlayStation 3 – 405.5k
  • PSP – 337.4k
  • Xbox 360 – 219.8k
  • PS2 – 188.8k

Next month should be interesting. Maintained sales lead, or hard fall on the back of the arse falling out of the new software releases?

I reckon it’ll still beat 360. Can’t see anything else coming up that’s going to give anything like that sort of boost again for a while yet, though.

Get a move on, then! I haven’t got all morning. :-)

@Pat: What about the 360 ‘end of line clearance sale’, though? Don’t you think that will boost 360 sales this month? And they announced new PS3s for next month, so who’s going to buy one this month? Unless they start discounting them too.
