Speaking with X3F, Valve’s Doug Lombardi reiterated the firm’s disinterest in developing for PlayStation 3 and Wii, and revealed that there were “new projects in the works” for Xbox 360.
He also confirmed that Portal: Still Alive was just the original game plus a few new challenges added to it.
“[Portal: Still Alive is] another way for people to experience Portal, without having to buy the full Orange Box,” said.

I really don’t know why Valve hate the PS3 so much. You’d think Sony’s open approach to the mod community and full endorsement of keyboard/mouse would be right up their street.

Yeah. I can understand them saying “not right now” but “no interest at all” is a bit excessive.

I guess it’s because the 360 architecture is closely related to the PC, and Valve always stresses being a PC game company.
I doubt it is about hate, it’s just economics: Switching to a completely new platform takes expertise which you either accumulate through a lenghty process of learning, or you buy it with cash.
It seems Valve has little interest in either of the two approaches, which is understandable, since the revenues of selling 3rd party titles via Steam alone can easily keep the company running, methinks.

Gabe Newell is a genuine 360 fanboy, he really hates the PS3 for no reason. Dunno about Doug Lombardi though. I guess PS3 development is more trouble than they feel it’s worth.

And we reiterate our disinterest in buying them.
The only thing that matters to Valve now is control over the PC market with their bloated (spyware) steam platform, episodic content (read: drag out a tired old story and slap some old development efforts together for a good old fashion “money grab”), and those parties offering up the highest percentage of the pie (his bend over buddies at Microsoft). Is it any wonder that he hates Sony and Apple for not playing into his “little game”?

Valve is most concerned about the PC, they had a shedload more sales of The Orange Box on that platform than they did on either of the consoles and that’s their focus. All ways has been, always will. It just happens that converting their stuff to 360 doesn’t take an awful lot of doing so they’re quite happy to do that as a side job.
And Steam is a great service.

Valve doesn’t do PS3 simply because they don’t have staff experienced in PS3 development. Luckily for PS3 owners that like Valve games, EA does.

All internet petitions are hilarious.
Newell also lambasted against the 360 quite some time back, berating its lack of hard drive as standard:
“Xbox 360 doesn’t make my life any better, and in fact, it makes it a lot worse, as you’re telling me I can’t count on having a hard drive”
He’s not a massive fan of either consoles but, if you only read the reporting that tends to go on in this wonderful world of selective soundbites you’d think he only ever made criticms of one and not the other.

Well I’m happy that I’ll be able to buy Portal without bothering with the rest of the Orange Box. Unless it turns out that it’s cheaper to buy a full Orange Box than the DLC by the time I actually get around to buying it.
