Joystiq bumped into Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi at E3, who revealed that as Polyphony Digital is focusing most of its energies on GT5: Prologue, the full retail version of GT5 probably won’t hit the market until 2010.
The hits just keep on coming. More through the link.

Poor old Sony. You could almost feel sorry for them. Almost.

Oh dear.
I presume they need the extra time to add in damage?

We’ll have colonised Alpha Centauri before this one turns up.

Pisser.
I’m not that bothered about the game, but I do want to race around the Top Gear track against various opponents. Why oh why can’t codies do a back-hander with the beeb and just get the durned track as DLC for GRiD?
Whizzo said:
It would make an interesting destruction derby track, it having a couple of crossovers, actually racing on it would be bit dangerous!
Syrok said:
They might add the track to Prologue, no?
Maybe Prologue will be the full game, they just keep adding more and more stuff to it until we have the full game. For free obviously.
Psychotext said:
pjmaybe: Arguably any company should be able to request the top gear test track… we own it after all.
(due to the unique way the bbc rips us all off)
Whizzo said:
The track isn’t owned by the Beeb though, you’d have to get permission from Dunsfold Park like the creator of the R-Factor track did.
Psychotext said:
Didn’t know that… thanks Whizzo, very interesting.

Absolute madness. I really want GT5, but I’m not so interested in Prologue, it still seems like a glorified demo to me. 2010 though.. for fucks sake.
@peej: I doubt the game will allow you to race around the Top Gear test track. The track is a figure 8, it’d end up like destruction derby. It’s not even a race track either, it’ll purely be used for time trials in GT5.

Holy Crap! 2010? Is there no end to the bad news roller coaster that is Sony?
Newbie101 said:
Clever if you ask me. More people will pick up Prologue now (plus they are constantly updating it).
More GT5P sales and then GT5 sales, it sucks yes but it is good business sense unfortunately
.

if they have exclusive top gear content i may have to pick up GT5P

Good stuff, why rush if you’re a developer of the standing Polyphony are?
patlike said:
It’s bad news for Sony, EC. Really not so good at all.
fragari said:
Then microsoft will release forza 10. HAHAHAHAHA.
el Croux said:
How’s it bad news? A Gran Turismo game is already out on the PS3, selling loads and being regularly updated and enhanced in some weird new incremental and public method of development. One that’s eliminating the need to rush out a whole new game because the last game came out years ago and everyone’s forgetting about your franchise.
morriss said:
You don’t want your major franchises to be delayed all the time. Doesn’t look very good.

Was GT ever on time?

There was a behind the scenes at Polyphony a little while ago on Playr – it just seemed so sterile and an unhappy place to work. I think they have some serious problems.
Really not sure how MS can so consistently hit deadlines with it’s big releases (bar a few exceptions) and Sony can get it so wrong. Obviously the PS3 is aq trickier beast but other non-Sony teams seem to get it together enough (CoD4 & Burnout Paradise for example).
