"nobody is actually going to BALANCE 500,000 different weapons against each other for optimum gameplay value and variance."

It worked in Diablo which had a lot more parameters going for it, I am interested in this although I think the randomness of the drops, enemies and the environments will be just as important as the weapon thing.

They're just doing this so someone can, ten minutes after the release, yell at them "omfg itz only 384.200 this game sucks". Exhibiting his fail at life.

Which is exactly what I'd do as a developer, to be honest.

Hmm. Numbers. That's pretty meaningless in actual gameplay terms as, I suspect, nobody is actually going to BALANCE 500,000 different weapons against each other for optimum gameplay value and variance.

It'll just boil down to the usual four: melee, power, rapid and range.
